Justin Hunter not impressing in Tennessee

That's true, but if you can't crack double digits on it then pretty strongly suggests you're a genuinely stupid person.

Also, in case anyone missed it, the Tennessee WR coach is our very own Shawn Jefferson. I had no idea that that's what he's up to these days.

I didn't know that, either. He was my favorite receiver on the Pats when I was but a young lad.

No. Without going in depth, Dobson was fine for me, and I'd have preferred a trade up to get Wheaton over Boyce.

Was it the drops that Boyce had in college, or just the fact that Wheaton is simply a more polished route runner?

I was one of the people who were crazy about Markus Wheaton and disappointed when the Steelers got him before us. He was fast, caught balls and run good routes. Then I see we took Boyce who was also fast and runs good routes.

Word has it out of Steelers' camp that Wheaton is already penciled in at #3 on their WR depth chart. It's not surprising given his skill set, the Steelers' prototype for WRs (fast, good route running and unable to beat press coverage), and their lack of depth at WR.

Then I let it marinate for a few weeks. Then I realize how built Boyce is. Wheaton might be another episode of the Deion Branch type (which would still be an OK thing) who run great routes but can't get off press coverage to save their life. Boyce looks strong enough to man handle any DB trying to harass him which really excites me.

The drops are important, and that's carried with him into camp, apparently. Also, though, measurables aside, Wheaton struck me as a more explosive player. The Steelers may have to put him in motion a bit, but I think he's got the chance to be DeSean Jackson/Mike Wallace-like in his ability to stress the back end of opponent defenses (I'm overselling this a bit in order to try explaining the difference, so take the sentence as a guide rather than a prediction). Route running matters, but I usually look to that later in an evaluation, because it gets better with practice, for most players.

Time will tell, and Boyce has some real advantages going into his rookie season (style of passing attack, Wheaton was late to the party because of the NCAA rules), so this will be one I'll watch for years unless one flames out early.

I'm sure Hunter will come around. Like the article said, there are a lot of experienced receivers on the team, so Hunter doesn't have a lot of pressure on him to be the main focal point. Also, the coaches were screaming at him for catching a 3rd down pass that gained a first down, yet he went backwards to try to gain more yardage. They said that's a typical rookie mistake, but hell, I saw Roddy White do that last night, and he's been in the league quite a while, it happens.

That doesn't sound like a softness error. Quite the opposite.

I liked Wheaton a lot too, but what you're asking for seems to require a bit of psychic power from the Patriots as the draft unfolded. When should they have expected to have to pull the trigger on a trade to secure Wheaton -- IF they could find a partner? By the late 60s, I'd think, which would have required #83 + #102. Meanwhile at that point they had already drafted a WR, needed DB help, and the DB options were getting thin.

So as much as I coveted Wheaton, under the circumstances crossing your fingers that he falls to #83 and if not settling for Logan at #83 + Boyce at #102 seems like a prudent move.

It would have been an easy trade, in terms of cost-per-the-chart. I'll leave it at that. I'm not getting into the rest in this thread.

For me, it was watching an interview after he had a record breaking game and he continually refused to take any credit for his own performance but continued to play up his teammates. I just thought that was so Patriot-like.

I will now be fixating on his teammate Brandin Cooks for next year who is probably faster and more explosive.

Yeah, I'll be looking out for him as well. For me, I started with Hunter, then realized how much of a dummy he is, and moved onto Woods.

Yes

............

Why would you rate a 5-10 185# smurf over some of the others like Aaron Dobson, 6-3, Robert Woods, 6-1, Keenan Allen,6-4, or even Josh Boyce who is not quite as short, but 20 lbs heavier?

Especially, as were specifically missing the deep sideline WR who can go up and get it?

Woods, Wheaton and Dobson were my three favorites. Got one, and an intriguing extra in Boyce, so I can't complain.

Here's hoping Boyce make us all eat those words...so far he has looked very good. It's been said if Boyce had a better QB in College he would been a Sure First or Second Rounder. Can't wait to see him play Tonight hoping for good health to all.

I'm not sure what part of me wanting them to draft 2 wide receivers you're struggling with, so I don't really know how to answer your question.

Yeah I miss all those huge receivers we had during the SB years who made such a difference for us. Donald Hayes, JJ Stokes, PK Sams. Real difference makers who made a difference.

Boyce supposedly has fantastic hands. He may just be going through a mental issue while learning the system. I would not be too concerned about it at this point

Justin Hunter hears more complaints from Titans coaches | ProFootballTalk

Just thought this was interesting since so many of us wanted hunter in the draft. I am completely happy we chose A Dobb.

The problem with justin Hunter is he is a typical U Tennesee WR. Big, talented, a thug, and as dumb as a rock, with delusions of self love and just full of it.

He couldn't/wouldn't learn this Playbook, and if he did in say three years, he would be an absolute pain in the posterior, when negotiating a new contract, with him so full of the DIVA attitude.

Another just like him is Corderelle Patterson.

Our UT WR never actually set foot on the campus, so he didn't get re-contaminated, before going to U Cincinnati.

If Hunter is a "thug", I can't image how you describe Thompkins , the guy you will be blindly rooting for tonight. And Thompkins was slated to be a Vol until Kiffen left. If he stayed at Tennessee, would you label him as "typical" as well.
The "Pats good World bad" always shines bright here.

I described him elsewhere in a post as a gangsta, thug, dope dealer who found God, and reformed before actually doing something novel like graduating from college. Even so BB only signed him as a UDFA.

he is a rookie...what do you expect...give him some time. he got the skills

I didn't want a dumb, UT, thug. They can't learn a complicated Playbook like the Pats use.

BB knew it and rejected Hunter, Patterson and other sexy, dumb-as-a-post athletes with Diva complexes, like D'Arick Rodgers. I would have too.

He went for the stand up guys, team captains, and good student-athletes like Aaron Dobson and Josh Boyce. The only one possibly missed was Robert Woods, but you can't get them all.

The result? A completely rebuilt WR corps in under two preseason games.

Are you generalizing ? Or you know for a fact that Hunter and Patterson are dumb as rocks and have diva mentalities ? I find your comments on this matter to be kinda ridiculous, unless you know those guys personally.

Wonderlic scores are not everything. But, Wonderlic scores in the single digits, are very revealing of illiterates, who wouldn't/didn't take advantage of 4 or 5 free years of college opportunity to improve himself... Plus both had "problem incidents" in college. Q.E.D. It doesn't take rocket science.

PS: Plus the ultimate best evidence is that BB passed over both of them.
