1) What players do you HAVE TO HAVE other than the 26 below?

2) Who would you kick off the island?

3) I think that these are our 26 best players on offense. How about you?

See below for a 26 man roster. If this doesn't work for you, consider it a 25 roster with either Ballard or Gronkowski on the PUP list.

Obviously, the final roster on offense could include from 23-27 players.

OFFENSE (26)
2 QB Brady, Mallett
4 RB Ridley, Vareen, Washington, Blount
5 WR Amendola, Dobson, Boyce, Jenkins, Jones
3 OT Solder, Vollmer, Svitek
3 OG Mankins, Connolly, McDonald
1 OC Wendell
1 OT/OG Cannon
5 TE Gronkowski, Ballard, Fells, Hooman, Sudfeld
2 ST Slater, Edelman

Obviously it depends on how they preform in camp but I would be in favor of losing a TE and Jones in favor of carrying a couple of extra players on D.

For all the justified hand-wringing about the WR position and the Hernandez nightmare, that is a really, really talented group of players. The offense should be very productive this year.

Jenkins or one of the TEs is an easy cut. Probably both with NE snagging someone off the waiver wire, which they always seem to do no matter how deep we think the roster is.

I agree that the bottom TE and the bottom WR are the most likely cuts. I also agree that Belichick will find an added player TBD.

What amazed me was how few competitors we really have for roster spots on offense.

Sudfield or Blount cut and replaced with Bolden

I would add Bolden and Zusevics and take out Fells, Svitek and Jenkins.

So I guess no one thinks Tebow has a shot to make the team..

I don't think Blount is a given. I think BB will want a 3rd-4th string RB who can pass block.

I list Blount for now, but I think a free agent RB TBD could win that roster spot. Some think that a drug free Bolden can win the spot.

1) What players do you HAVE TO HAVE other than the 26 below?
I can't really say I have one that i 'have to have' myself; we're talking about borderline players here. Plenty of possibilities though: Tebow, Blount, Winn, Thompkins, Harrison, Ford, another OL, etc.

2) Who would you kick off the island?
Similar answer as above. While a TE may appear to be the obvious answer, that would not be the case if we're figuring Gronk is on the roster but is a game day inactive the first few weeks. At first I was going to say one of either Fells or Hoomanawanui, but I think if I have to pick one it is Blount. I might rather go with Bolden or Winn, though it is way too early to say so definitively.

Right now I would agree that those are the front runners, though I personally would place Bolden ahead of Blount

Great point, because from what I have read Ballard was still not 100% in OTAs; we may need to pump the brakes as far as penciling him in to be on the week one roster.

Obviously, the final roster on offense could include from 23-27 players.

OFFENSE (26)
2 QB Brady, Mallett
4 RB Ridley, Vereen, Washington, Blount
5 WR Amendola, Dobson, Boyce, Jenkins, Jones
3 OT Solder, Vollmer, Svitek
3 OG Mankins, Connolly, McDonald
1 OC Wendell
1 OT/OG Cannon
5 TE Gronkowski, Ballard, Fells, Hooman, Sudfeld
2 ST Slater, Edelman

While these are probably the most likely to make the roster, the reality is that several of them will not be there in week one.

Personally, I see no reason to keep 5 TE's but that's just my opinion.

I'd have to think that NONE of Fells, Hooman, or Sudfeld are locks; and that only 2 of the 3 make it at best. We may also see some competition from Ford, and/or bring in another TE as long as it happens relatively early on in TC.

I think there's a decent chance that Sudfeld could also make the PS, but it's really too early to try and project his situation either way.

At this point I'd probably lean towards keeping 4 TE's and 3 QB's instead. I personally have a hard time believing that they'll cut Tebow.

As others have mentioned, there are some possibilities at WR also such as cutting Jenkins/Jones, and/or even placing Boyce on IR for a redshirt year. That will be another interesting position for sure...probably the most interesting in all of training camp.

So I guess no one thinks Tebow has a shot to make the team..

I think he's got a shot myself. If he didn't Belichick and McDaniels wouldn't have brought him here - despite all the fans who think they're a better GM than BB and know that Tebow can't make the cut.

But I think this does illustrate that Tebow actually does need to play well to make the team and show he can be a contributor outside of QB

So in terms of finding two spots o make room for Tebow I expect the worst TE will not make the cut and we may be able to stash a promising but developmental WR on PS or IR if need be.

Edelman being counted as on ST (and to a lesser degree Slater) provides additional depth at WR if they need it.

Here are mine:

OFFENSE (26)
3 QB Brady, Mallett, Teebow
4 RB Ridley, Vareen, Washington, Bolden
5 WR Amendola, Dobson, Boyce, Jenkins, Jones
3 OT Solder, Vollmer, Svitek
3 OG Mankins, Connolly, McDonald
1 OC Wendell
1 OT/OG Cannon
4 TE Gronkowski, Ballard, Fells, Hooman
2 ST Slater, Edelman

I list Blount for now, but I think a free agent RB TBD could win that roster spot. Some think that a drug free Bolden can win the spot.

Why not George Winn?

So I guess no one thinks Tebow has a shot to make the team..

Of course he's got a shot - they wouldn't have signed him otherwise.

This is my current offense projection:

QB (2): Brady, Mallett
RB (5): Ridley, Vereen, Blount, Bolden, Washington
WR (6): Amendola, Jenkins, Edelman, Dobson, Boyce, Slater
TE (4): Gronkowski, Ballard, Hoomanawanui, Sudfeld
OL (8): Solder, Mankins, Wendell, Connolly, Vollmer, Svitek, Cannon, N. McDonald

-I don't see Tebow making the team unless he has a magical turnaround.
-5 RB because I think with Vereen already being so good at catching, Washington will be essentially just a special teamer. Need more than just one backup at such a physically punishing position.
-Jenkins makes the team right now, but if Dobson proves he can come even close to matching his production, the spot goes to the best of the remaining young guys. Sounds like either Hawkins or Thompkins has the inside track right now, with Jones taking reps with the bottom of the roster in OTAs.
-After Gronkowski, it's wide open at TE. I could see any of them making the team or being cut. Was Fells just injured last year? Are we just overrating Ballard because he scored the game winning TD against us in the regular season Giants game? Sudfeld and Ford are physically built like Gronkowski/Hernandez clones, respectively, but can they play?
-I don't see why the Patriots haven't signed a veteran interior OL. Lots of tackles, not many guards. Was Tyronne Green really that horrible?

For me, this is never the right question. It is never why not? Winn has not, and is very unlikely, to be one of the best RB's on the team at the time the season starts. It is simply that simple.

I have no reason to believe that Winn should beat out two veterans for a roster spot. Bolden is a developmental player who looked OK. Blount is a seasoned vet. Both could start if necessary.

We might keep only four. We might keep five. IMHO, I see no reason that Winn is anything but Practice Squad material.

As I have indicated, I believe that a free agent TBD has a better shot at the 53 than Winn.

And this isn't a knock on Winn. He was an UDFA who was brought in as a camp body. He's done fine. Maybe he'll make the Practice Squad, maybe not.

Why not George Winn?

Sure, just like the other 35 or so players now on the squad who will not make the 53 man squad.

Of course he's got a shot - they wouldn't have signed him otherwise.
