Marcus Cannon: his role in 2013, and the OL

We dress 7 OL's each game. The 2 backups need to backup all five OL positions. It seems that barring additions our Game Day backups are McDonald and Cannon.

I suppose Zusevics or Svitek could be active instead of Cannon. If Cannon is viewed as an OG (the message board wins), he would be inactive since he can't backup at center.

I think that it more likely that Zusevics will beat out Svitek for a roster spot. After all, many of us viewed Svitek as insurance against Vollmer not signing or being injured in camp.

IIRC, we dressed 8 offensive linemen most of the time last season, MG. And if I have my way Cannon will be the starting RG this season as well as the back up RT. I want to run the ball more and Cannon is the kind of mauler that will create the space our RB's need to succeed. At almost 40 heavier and a better athlete, he will be stouter in the middle, which is more important since Wendell is on the smallish side (relatively speaking).

More and more teams (including the Pats) will be looking for ways to create more pressure on the inside, and thus we need to upgrade our inside players when possible. There is nothing wrong with Dan Connolly. He's been a very solid starter the last 2 years at 2 positions, and I would not be upset if he wound up being the starting RG again. But...I think that Cannon could potentially be better. I really hope the Pats give him every chance to win that job, and if he can't, then fine.

The active G does not have to play C because the starting RG can. Last year Thomas was the active G and he could not play C.
Svitek is interesting, and 'many of us viewed' usually doesn't prove to be an accurate opinion.

So, Cannon could be active with either Svitek or Zusevics.

Or, Cannon could be active and STARTING with one of Connolly/Wendell at Center, the Other on the bench and Zusevics not dressed..

Cannon could start at OG as Message Board posters. However, there has been zero indication by the patriots that Cannon's future is at guard. He has not had many reps there at all.

That doesn't mean that it cannot happen.
