DRAFT DAY DISCUSSION The Official Rounds 4-7 2013 NFL Draft Thread

To be fair, Kindle had a freak accident which resulted in a serious head injury which really ruined his career. I don't think you can consider that a draft blunder.

It wasn't exactly a freak injury, though, since it resulted from a known condition that had caused him trouble in the past. Plus even after he recovered from that, he was still useless because of all of his other known conditions! Plenty of people were questioning before the draft whether he'd ever be able to play in the NFL. Even me.

from April, 2010:

And now that word is trickling out that Kindle has ADD & requires tricky knee surgery along with the previously reported concussions and narcolepsy, we probably have a lot of company.

Seriously, I feel for the kid -- that's a lot of challenges to deal with at a young age, and the possibility of losing out on a football career that seemed so full of promise is a real shame.

Da'Rick is the next Dennard in this draft if you want a 7th round rookie starter, hope we do it.

also you guys are kinda of funny in rating teams drafts right now...

i remember a pats draft where we got arguably the 2nd best RB in the draft, and the 2nd best WR in the draft....

their names were Laurence Maroney and Chad Jackson

I agree. I remember after draft weekend in 2006, the universal grade for the Pats was an A/A- range. People marveled how the Pats got two first round pick talent in the the first two rounds.

On the flip side, the Pats' 2003 draft was universally panned. People trashed Ty Warren as a major reach who was drafted with the 13th pick where he should have been a second round pick. No one thought Koppen would do much in the NFL and Asante Samuel was drafted far too high.

Even if you look at the 2010 draft, the Pats got mediocre grades. They felt the Pats took Hernandez and Spikes way too high. They felt the Pats should have taken Jerry Hughes or Kyle Wilson over McCourty. They felt the Pats drafted a punter way too high.

I guarantee that there will be teams that everyone will be gushing over their draft tomorrow will have a bust of a draft and a team who people will be ridiculing tomorrow will end up getting several impact starters possibly perennial Pro Bowlers. Happens almost every year.

This is why I don't go overboard with the praise or condemnation of a Patriots pick. Most of us really have no clue about any of these players other than what we read about or see in highlight packages. College football ratings in this area are abismal compared to other parts of the country. So few of us are scouting any of these players.

What safety taken since we took Harmon would you of rather had? Bill & Co. do their work. Lets trust them on this one. Tavon Wilson was the 2nd best rookie Safety last year after Mark Barron (taken 7th overall).

I would've loved Shamarko Thomas

Good god Seattle. Take it easy will ya! Jesse Williams, Jordan Hill, Red Bryant... and now Tharold Simon to a backfield of Sherman, Brownser, Thomas and Chancellor. That's some size!

I agree completely. Ravens stray from the chalk a few times every draft, and like the Pats in general, these supposed 'reaches' usually end up warranting the pick. And when they do draft the chalk it is usually after it has fallen to a "valuable" spot in the draft. Otherwise the Ravens trade back, as the Patriot/Belichick template suggests is best.

As for Juszczyk, he is going to be a pass-catching FB, imo, more than a blocking TE (though will line up in both spots). A Hynoski, H-back, type of guy. And unfortunately for Vonta Leach, I think it means the Ravens will unload Leach and his pricey cap hit before the season starts. I could be wrong though.

Brandon Williams was another semi-unknown "reach" we took, and I love that pick. Cody has officially moved into "bust" territory, and we needed beef up the middle. Small school doesn't bother me at all with Williams. The guy is just massively strong (in upper body...might need some lower body strength work).

Just curious, do the Ravens boards have the same contingent of draft know it alls who bash every draft that the Patriots have?

We actually have the finest contingent of 3 years after the draft experts of any site in football. These guys were all over Mike Wallace in 2012, can't miss....,......

Players like Patton and Lattimore are sitting there yesterday at 91 and you take that (in all likeliness) scrub from Rutgers. Unbelievable. On top of that you let your main SB contender take both.

Watch just how good that offense will be with those 2 especially with a healthy Lattimore, he'll crap all over Lamichael James.

Jesse Williams in the fifth is a good pick even if he does have some real medical concerns. A fifth rounder is worth the risk to see if he can stay healthy and live up to his potential.

Surprised Ryan Swope is still out there. Could he go to the Jets?

By passing on Patton and Lattimore it wasn't guaranteed the 49ers would take both. It just turned out that way. 49ers already have Crabtree, Boldin, Manningham, and Jenkins. How much of a difference can Patton really make there?

Let's make it to the Super Bowl before we worry about who we could be playing there.

My favorite back in the draft. Stepfan runs like Ridley and constantly ran when the opposing team knew it was coming.

Darn.

Lattimore at the back of the 4th is a good pick, but there is a chance that this guy will never play football or at least anywhere near the level he was prior to his injury. Two major knee injuries already. A safe risk at the back of the 4th with a team that had a ton of picks. Not as safe at the back of the third with a team with less picks.

And Patton was the fourth WR taken today including one by the Pats. There was no way the Pats were going to draft him at 91. In fact, the rest of the league does not value the guy the way people on this board do.

He doesn't have to do much in Seattle. Just plug the middle in Seattle's 4-3 under (which is essentially a 3-4 front) and let Bryant, Bennett, Avril and Irvin make plays.

I really like the Lattimore pick they can afford to take a flyer with the guy, but you need to get a grip, best case is is a backup for Gore.

L James fills an entirely different role.

Yet another good pick by the Cardinals. Stepfan Taylor has really gone under the radar.

Interesting what Michael Lombardi is doing. Only used two picks (Mingo/McFadden) and has picked up two 2014 picks (3rd and 4th).

Quite like it considering how much they upgraded in FA.

I know but i'm saying it's most likely going to be san fran again when you look at that draft.

Yep. The guy had bench pressed 600lbs !

My hope is Patriots pick this DT, he reminds me of Washington :

T.J. Barnes - Georgia Tech
6'6"
34 7/8"
ARM LENGTH
369LBS.
WEIGHT
10 3/4"

OVERVIEW
Few prospects are born with the size of Barnes, but the biggest issue is finding a position that fits such a mammoth sized player. For Barnes, it was nose tackle int he Yellow Jackets three man front. The senior played behind Vance Walker, a current NFL player, who helped shape the interior behemoth to the player he is today. In fact, Barnes's brother, former FSU tight end Beau Reliford, already went through the draft prroess last season.

After redshirting in 2008, Barnes played in all 14 games in 2009, making one start and gaining more playing time as the season went along. That season he totaled 16 total tackles, including 1.5 tackles for loss. It was much of the same in 2010, as Barnes played in 12 games, starting one. He recorded 20 total tackles including a half tackle or loss. Barnes continued his backup duty in 2011, recording 11 total tackles and 1.5 tackles for loss. Then, as a senior, Barnes rotated in and out of the starting lineup, tallying 28 total tackles including five tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks.

NFC West are dominating this draft. Cards draft is a bit of a sleeper for one of the best.

Jets RT, RB, WR, TE are still all hilariously bad, another guard won't help.
