Likely Receiving core: What do you think?

Here's a nugget for you Randy Moss had 12 more touchdowns than Welker in 3.25 seasons with us. Not saying I don't like Welker and appreciate what he did but playing offense in the NFL is about scoring points. If you're limited in the red zone, your yards per catch drop below 10 yards career in the postseason and then drop the ball when it really matters the most how much value do you really hold? The reality is Danny Woodhead put the ball in the end zone for almost twice as many times last year.

If a doctor kills a patient in surgery they don't say well he did such a good job on those other surgeries in his career what's the big deal. I will tell you one thing BM I'm not one of those fans but I am the type of guy that if a company gave me $20+ mil over the last six years to do a job and when it mattered most I failed the company the last ******* thing I'm going to do is join their biggest competition I don't give a **** how they treated me I'm the failure and I'm going to make it up to them. I'd blow my brains out that offseason if I screwed up like he did what did he do he married a hooters girl and got hair implants. I have no use for Welker and anyone who supports him over the Patriots.

Although this post is mostly inaccurate and even a little delusional...
I still LOVE it.

Know why?

Cuz someone else is angry at White Wes Welker. And the guy is right about Wes' no matter how many stats the big posters around here can bring to the table.
It's not about numbers, it's about image. Welker's is one of a choker. Those two massive drops overshadow all those clutch 1st down catches he ever made. Other than his touchdown in the '07 season's AFC Championship Game, I can't really recall another crucial play he made in the playoffs.

... well, except for those 2 boners.

This Jax guy's "If I did that, I'd blow my brains out, not marry some freaking hooters bimbo, get hair plugs, and join a rival team. I'd be making restitutions to the company I screwed over" is irrational, to be sure.

But make no mistake, it made me feel better seeing someone take White Wes Welker to task for his fricking CHUMP CHOKE JOBS. Guy knows hoe to catch little bullets from Brady, but when he has TIME to think about a catch when a ball is in the air towards him for an inordinate amount of time, well then, ol' Einstein overthinks it and his hands don't work.
It's psychological, like everything else in life.

Welker's great, quick reaction-wise, but he doesn't have the mental makeup to watch a ball in flight for very long. Otherwise Wes' demons come out of the closet, his ego shrinks, & muscle coordination goes out the window with it.
Wes is great, sure, just don't give him anything he has to think about.

The guy has the personality of a zombie. Ever hear him speak? It's a droning monotone.
Not too much upstairs.

Don't throw him longer flight passes where he has time to overthink it. The less thinking Welker has to do, the better his production will be, which is primarily between the 20's anyway. Lotta players get you ***** between the 20's. He can't do what Boldin did in January. Those are the catches that count.

Those are the catches you remember. And like I said before, I can't really remember many of Welker's 500 plus over the last 5 or 6 years or however many he's had.

I remember the fricking DROPS. And Jax's rant was a good release of steam & nice to see someone else who's wicked pissed at this guy instead of championing all his millions of 1st down snares. Who effing cares?

It's about IMAGE & LEGACY. Welker's is screwed if he doesn't come up big in the future. And let's hope he doesn't, because that'd be from Peyton Manning's arm. What a d*ck.
And he's a moron. Listen to that robot try to put a coherent thought across, verbally. "Uhh.... duhhh"

and I won't even mention the glazed & dazed mono-stare look his eyes have. Kinda matches his droning voice.

There. Welker Rant over :bricks:

In the red area, the team usually tried to toss it to the TE's, who are very big match-up problems down there. They were correct in calling plays that tried to get the TE's open first and foremost. Inside the ten yard line, the team would usually try to run it in. They were also correct in doing so. Welker was a slot receiver who still got the ball in the end zone a good amount of times. But you have to look at the play calling and the way this offense was set up before slamming Welker for something that you really should not be slamming him for.

There is so much fail here...

So many excuses here in patsfans for Welker.

The only embarrassment I felt was the shame of reading this post.

How old are you, I'm guessing around 15, tops.

I'm old enough to realize children face inward when thinking about how their action affect themselves and adults face outward about how actions affect the people around them.

I'm tired of our expectations of people being different just because what they do may not be life or death. People should be held accountable for their responsibilities. If I get pulled over for running a stop sign I can't tell the cop I stopped their 300 times in the past it doesn't matter I still ran the stop sign that day.

37 yards per game and 3.4 catches per game is the definition of mediocre. When you take out his numbers against one of the worst secondaries in the NFL (who he will not get to play against since he is now on this team) his numbers go to 28 yards per game and 3.3 catches per game, further demonstrating his mediocrity.

You are the one bringing Welker's failures in to this as a comparison as to why we should think more highly of Jones. At least that is what your rambling about Welker implied.

You must be completely delusional when people say Branch replacement they mean the guy that had 12 more yards this entire season than the SB MVP branch had in SB 39 alone. Your point makes no sense at all we aren't talking about that branch, maybe that is why you think so highly of Jones you think you are getting some kind of SB MVP replacement.

Donald Jones stinks and probably won't even make the team, it is absolutely idiotic to compare him AGAIN to Welker, which you claim to not be doing. That overrated slot receiver had just as many touchdowns over THREE TIMES the yards and was on the field for every game unlike Donald Jones.

I completely ignored your point about Welker being a "trader" because I could not fathom how a grown man (? You may be a 5 year old) could confuse the word trader with traitor. I guess my only response to that is what does Wes trade in? Peanuts?

Overall your infatuation with a JAG receiver is really strange, I'm not sure what more there is to say on the topic. Jones has mediocre production at the NFL level and until he demonstrates otherwise he is a mediocre player.

Sorry my iPad mini uses predictive text.. Anyway he turned on his team, his friends and the people who relied on him because of feelings and selfish grudges. IMO he let this team down when it mattered most and he should of stayed to try and give the SB back to the team that in all likely hood his drop cost it, instead he joined the team most likely to stand in the way of them getting that SB win back.

But that's ok so I guess I am one of those fans and you are one of those MEN.

Requesting for anyone to tell me what this post was about.

So many excuses here in patsfans for Welker.

He was probably sneaking cigarettes when he was young. There is absolutely no excuse for him not growing to 6'6" and becoming an excellent red zone target. Of course, I happen to think catching 120 balls or so and converting multiple 3rd downs on just about every drive is important, but that's just me.

No one is ever allowed to fail. First time, you should just quit and make way for the perfect receiver we all know is in that next draft.

No body should let a team down and then go join it biggest competition over feelings

Something overlooked by most posters here is that the Offense has been thoroughly rebuilt with youngsters at every position, OT, OG, OC, RB TE, and even the QB position has been augmented. The only position where BB has had to patch with oldsters was WR. This offseason he has turned to the rebuilding of the WR corps.

All the oldsters, except Stallworth are gone. Welcome to a new generation of WRs. Although the names are somewhat unfamiliar these WR are all young, and possess some speed, and at least nominal size. No smurfs need apply. If or when BB drafts a WR the position will also be completely rebuilt. Then the new pre-Lombardi teams will be complete.

Welcome to the new Lombardi era Patriots.

We are not young at OG. We are old, injury-prone & expensive. If we had our normal allottment
of 7+ picks, I would use at least one of them on C/G. We need to replace Mankin$ & Connolly
by 2014, 2015 at the latest.

So we're keeping six receivers (Slater's not getting cut), three tight ends, four running backs?

Slater is a special teams ace. If he was a receiver, he would be cut.

Well, with Edelman resigning and Sanders looking like he'll be coming too, in addition to the other free-agent signings what do you think about the likely receiving core and TE core?

WR
Danny Amendola
Emmanuel Sanders
Donald Jones
Julian Edelman
Michael Jenkins
/ Aaron Hernandez (Extra WR/X-Man)
Shane Vereen
Leon Washington

TE
Rob Gronkowski
Aaron Hernandez/ WR
Jake Ballard - pass catching/ receiving type

I don't think Jenkins makes the cut. those tall slow receivers never fit well in our system. Plenty of tall TEs. If there's room, maybe a speed guy to develop, or keep some receivers on the practice squad.

For me my dream scenario at this point would be getting Sanders and either drafting Allen, Woods, Hunter, or Dobson in the draft to play outside, Amendola in the slot, Jones and Edelman as the 4th and 5th, and Slater as the ST guy.

I actually think Welker is a choker as well, but that doesn't mean he wouldn't be useful for 6 million a year with better options around him to go to in crunch time. Simply too much had been put on the Welker-Brady connection the last few years.

The NFL is business man there is no loyalty on either side, besides maybe Brady and Kraft but that is only until Brady starts to decline then a feud will start. If Welker didn't recover from his ACL the Pats would have throw him to the curb faster than you could blink. Likewise he isn't going to hurt his career earnings because he blew it here, in fact he probably wanted to get away from here anyway because he left us with 2 drops that for many of us, including you and me, tainted what he did here.

In the end none of that makes Donald Jones anything but an unknown at this point. If he tears it up I will give you kudos and eat crow. I'd love for him to do so because it makes our Patriots better.

So many excuses here in patsfans for Welker.

No, people are just grounded in the real world while morons constantly bemoan how Welker didn't take less money to stay here.

Welker did the team thing. He didn't hold out, he signed his franchise tag. If you're going to draw sentimentalism into the equation, you can't just hold it to Welker. But your very own logic, Welker put the team ahead of his long term security and took a leap of faith and the team boned him.

This is a business. The Patriots did the smart thing. Welker got boned and left for more money and a place he didn't feel like he got completely shafted. I can't blame him for that and neither should anyone else.

Anyways.
-Amendola, Sanders, Edelman, Jones, Slater

-Gronk, Hernandez, Ballard, Hooman

-Ridley, Vereen, Washington, Bolden

This team is held hostage to the fact that we never replaced Randy Moss when he departed.

And a perfect opportunity presented itself a couple of years ago. But Belichick made perhaps the biggest mistake in his coaching career, taking the oft-injured Ras-I Dowling when a beautiful situation presented itself: Torrey Smith, WR, Maryland. The speed burner who has burned us on more than one occasion.

But it's harder to get top-flight talent at the secondary from free agency than it is receivers.

Donte' Stallworth, do you have your bags packed? How are you doing with those burns?

How are you legs, Deion? Ready to go another season?

Torrey Smith is one of the most overrated receivers in football. A stud one game. Sucks the next four. Other than two catches in the playoffs (one a totally blown coverage), Smith was a non-factor in the Ravens' Super Bowl run.

Damn glad the Pats didn't get Smith. One dimensional. Not physical. Way too inconsistent. He would have been a bust in this system. All he runs is go routes.

I really don't get why people think Torrey Smith is all that special.
