So true. He might end up being just the tough blocker + middle of the field threat to keep the chains moving type of player we need…just can't give us the YAC or burst Gronk can.

Gronk Suffers another setback

Gronk will be fine. Gronk has to be one of the toughest football players I have seen. How do you stop a bad landing on a ankle like aherns and then a broken arm? It's just bad luck for amendola, gronk and ahern. We have to deal with the injuries and they will stop soon. And the moment they do, all havoc will break loose and this team will be scary good. Just more scary than the past few years. Did anyone see the landing he had in 2011 at Kansas City on his neck/ head? That could have been bad. Just luck and unfortunately we have had bad luck. And when there is a down side there is a upside. Like when there is a upside there is a downside. None of these guys are injury prone, just have $h@&ty luck IMO. Which will change soon.

Re: Gronk Suffers another setback

Gronk is tough no doubt about it....but very very unlucky and sometimes that hurts worse whether or not you are tough

If his rehabilitation continues to progress, sure. To this point all we have is another unhealthy player. Mike Reiss said yesterday that he's currently rehabbing and "may be in the mix" for reps at the position in 2013.

That's a far cry from what seems to be a lot of fans suddenly assuming that he's going to have a great season here. We heard the same thing last offseason from our other TE's in Fells and Schiancoe, but didn't see a single thing from either one of them.

You missed the Mallett to Shiancoe pass play then

Yes but luck always changes, someone doesn't always have bad luck.

Yes sir, how could I have forgotten?

Not only did it showcase the 2012 season for Schiancoe, it also shot Ryan Mallett up the charts into potential 1st/2nd round status...

Re: Gronk Suffers another setback

Some presume that Gronk will be 100% by the time the season starts.

Some presume that the recovery time from infections is uncertain.

And yes, there is the disagreement on the likelihood of additional surgery.

Personally, I come down on the side of uncertainty. I think that it wrong to simply assume that the infection will be gone after 6 weeks of treatment and that he will then be able to be at 100% strength soon thereafter.

THAT HAVING BEEN SAID, Gronkowski will recover and help us in 2013.

Of course there is a chance that Gronk will miss the start of the season, but based on all the timelines laid out thus far it seems remote. It was similar to Tom Curran's story that Brady could miss all or part of the 2009 season due to infection. The chances were remote, but there was a possibility.

Right now, there is about 21 weeks until the start of the season. Most worst case scenarios have a 16 week timeframe. Odds are very good that even if the worst case scenario comes into play, he will be back for the start of the season.

I personally blame the state of journalism today. The need to sensationalize stories have reporters reporting the worst case scenarios are likely scenarios. Even if there is a possibility that the worst case scenario has Gronk missing the start of the season, what are the odds of it happening? 10%? 5%? 25%? 1%?

I think the author, (walker) is right on the money, gronk wasw on his way to a HOF career and if he misses the first 2 weeks of 2013 he will fall way off it and won't make it. Great read, almost as good as the work by Borges.

Re: Gronk Suffers another setback

We still don't know if Ballard will be 100% come this season. I get we all want to rely on him..but we can't until we see at least something

Patriots can no longer count on Gronkowski - AFC East Blog - ESPN

This article...is a little harsh no? I get where he is coming from but not to that extent

For a guy who has missed 5 games (7 games including the playoffs) with all of them coming this past season in his three year career, it is a little silly to write an article that the Pats can no longer rely on Gronk.

Or Boomer Esiason's prediction that Welker would miss all of the 2009 season.

Re: Gronk Suffers another setback

Problem is you can't count on Gronk year in and year out. He had an injury history in college and it has continued in the pros. What, this is going to get better as he gets older??
My fear is the Patriots will continue to wrap their offense around Gronk.

My fear is that I'll forget to ignore your future posts.
