So, clearly we should pay a guy 5-7 mill. A year who has chronic feet, and knee issues who has yet to put up respectable numbers warranting those #'s. Not to mention throw away a 3rd. Round pick on top of your cap issues that will follow.

Genius!
What makes you think he's getting anywhere near those numbers?

Are you kidding me?

You do realize he is part of th YMF...(young money family).

He saw how wallace did the phins.

This kid has the same mind set.

Their soundbites were UNBEARABLE!

They think they are comic book heroes.

Good luck with that. I think, and I hope BB saw that in his visit.

So we should waste a needed defensive draft pick on another non-productive WR at round 2 just like the several failed WRs drafted before him

Genius

Yes, 2 can play your silly game

No. I'm on board with with over paying a mediocre injury prone WR, WITH nfl experience
Cause you think that's best.

Did you get my pm, with my banking info.?

Lets get it rolling!$

You're basing this on some quotes from two years ago, before any of them signed new contracts?

Lol! Not quite.

I'm not trying to be a smart***.

This is common knowledge, wallace, brown, and sanders straight to the final week of reg. Season last year.

No way BB goes, for that side show.

Sanders has played in the NFL. Pats round 2 & 3 WRs after Branch have been disasters. So, who knows?

I agree, but the question needed to be asked, and it must be answered.
So, if Sanders does not sign here, then Bill & Skippy & Nick & Daboll better be damn sure
that the next WR (or 2) they draft can provide Branch-as-rookie production; otherwise,
this WR group will start to resemble the 2006 WRs - and that's not a good thing.

Sanders will be more expensive than the 3rd-round WR. The question to be asked, therefore, is:
Will the anticipated difference in production in Sanders' favor outweigh the difference in cost
in the rookie's favor?

Most definitely, up until the first pre-season game when the unanticipated touchdown by a rookie from the opposing team sends Sanders' anticipated value plummeting and posters scurrying for their keyboards begging for Randy Moss to come back and for Bill Belichick to be relieved of his duties.

You think because they're friends they're going to get paid the same? Wallace has produced at an elite level before and has one of the best YPC averages in the NFL, Sanders is a #3 WR.

Sanders won't get 5-7m/year when his best season is something like 600 yards and he's been somewhat plagued with injuries.

The nickname they gave themselves and their mindset is 100% irrelevant to what they'll be paid. Welker's mindset that he could do better than 8m/year certainly didn't mean jack after he posted another 100+ catch 1300+ yard season.

Why? Is there late a 3rd round WR with better demonstrable NFL prospects than Sanders? The pick gets used on a player regardless. Why not Sanders?

Ummm... it's not just the 3rd rounder. It's the salary PLUS the pick. A 3rd rounder gets paid chump change, this RFA does not. Now a useful FS, SS, CB, LB, OG that we could have drafted is lost to us. Also it's quite possible that Lloyd would be as good or better than Sanders for less $ and no pick.

I'm in the camp that our talented RBs and TEs need to be complimented and enhanced by someone who captures the attention of a defense along the sidelines and deep. Our recent offenses have been restricted to just part of the field making it easier for DCs to focus.

Unlike some authoritarians I have no idea who the Pats might draft at WR or more so how they'll perform in the NFL. The solution of a vet such as Sanders, sort of the last man standing at WR, or drafting a WR who can pose a modicum of threat beyond 20 yards is needed to make best use the talent at QB.

I don't think he's the last man standing for the role you describe. In fact, I think Danario Alexander is better at the role you describe. One-on-one deep, he reaches over the flailing cornerback and makes the guy look like a little kid. Very few recievers can ever do that (Moss comes to mind).

And he wouldn't cost a pick. I'm mystified as to why the Pats haven't taken a good look at him. Or maybe they have and his knees are just too shot, I don't know. I've read a couple of articles from sportswriters in San Diego freaked out at how low his tender was (no pick) and a couple from around here who can't believe the Pats aren't kicking his tires.

Good point, forgot to mention him. Maybe he is on the radar or is excluded because his knees are just too far gone to waste a roster spot. Remember our lamentations over needed players being injured for the post season. BB may not want to waste his big WR threat on a guy he feels is 90% unlikely to make the post season. If you're the Pats you need to make moves that build a roster that can beat the best in the NFL.

as someone mentioned above there is an unwritten rule among owners not to touch each other's RFAs. Sanders to NE ain't happening unless the pats want to bring back James.

Has anyone mentioned the unwritten rule about RFA's; yeah, probably 50 times so far.

More realistic is a threat to sign him and a negotiated deal as we did with Welker.

Yeah, I don't buy that "rule." I just think there aren't many RFA situations worth going after with a hard cap. It's not just giving up draft picks, but taking a vet's salary hit over that of a rookie.

I noted the San Diego reporters going berserk when Alexander was tendered so cheaply. Are they just part of the conspiracy?

Buy it or not, it's there to a degree. It's in hockey too, which is something the Bruins are, no doubt, thrilled about. It's what led to the Kessel trade, because Burke wouldn't go the RFA offer route.

The San Diego reporters simply don't understand the process. If someone signs one of the rare RFA offers with Alexander, San Diego is likely to match, as teams almost always do.

i hope the gronk news makes them sign him to a sheet...pitt can't match

Your source? Or is it the unwritten rule? Or you just talking out of your *** again

Clearing something up, Sanders doesn't have the same mindset as Wallace. The 'young money crew' was a little bit silly, but AB and Manny aren't primadonna's that will ask for huge amounts of money and then not catch the ball.

Manny is a solid receiver (when he's on the field) he just needs to stay healthy and continue to develop his slot-receiving role.

Also, something tells me the Patriots aren't the kind of team that will abide by 'unwritten rules'. That's not a shot, I wouldn't either if the right RFA was available.
