RFA Emmanuel Sanders visits Pats 3/16; signs offer sheet 4/10, sheet matched 4/14

How can you say this considering we're 16 days from the deadline?

It's just a gut feeling...i hope im wrong. With the limited number of picks this year, belichick is going to hold into them for his dear life. If he had an extra thirs rounder then maybe he gets sanders.

How is this any different than the Welker trade (that was almost done via RFA offer sheet) they made six years ago? The Pats have not been afraid at all to give up picks for receivers, with four trades for WRs in six years, assuming I remembered them all.

They have fewer picks this year.

In a lot of ways the pats are a very conservative front office. They will not sign sanders to an offer sheet. I think they brought him in to put pressure on lloyd to restructure.

to put pressure on lloyd? sometimes i have no idea where you get these thoughts :bricks:

I do believe the Pats and Sanders have an understanding and mutual interest. However, there is huge value in holding off on a contract for Sanders. Until the Steelers know the details of the Sanders offer, they are basically on hold for all their other offseason moves. Gets one more organization that seems to like similar type of players out of the bidding. If they move forward with their offseason plans, they risk pricing themselves out of sanders or have to make cuts/restructures that are undesirable. Astute move by Pats and Steelers left themselves vulnerable by playing so tight to the salary cap.

It was just my opinion, and i know a few others here felt that way too. If you don't like it, get off this forum. Learn to live with other people's opinions instead of trying to act like you know it all. In case you didn't notice, lloyd was cut immediately after sanders came in for a visit...maybe the pats are trying to send lloyd a message (eg, we have other options).

The problem with the pats waiting for so long to sign him, if they intend to do so, is that other teams may jump in as well.

I wish the thread title would be changed. It implies there is an expectation that he will sign, or that we're all awaiting the formality to be over.

That's not the case. Title should be Pats interested in Sanders or something.

Not the biggest deal, but I keep reading the first five words and getting all excited than remembering what the thread actually is..

I was just about to post something similar. Everytime I see this thread I think omfg sanders signed!!! Then I see to the right UPDATE: Still unsigned for the nth time.:violent:

:ditto::agree::yeahthat:

did I miss anything

Mike Reiss thinks there is about an 85 percent chance it doesn't happen.

So it looks like veteran free agents and maybe a rookie.

The fact that the pats are lookng at deandre hopkins is telling...maybe they go WR in the draft and are moving away from sanders.

Or are they pressuring Sanders to sign on their terms?

Not gonna be surprised when they trade out of the #29 pick for a 2nd and 4th and take a WR and CB in the 2nd and another WR in the 3rd

2010- Reloaded on TE
2011- Reloaded on RB
2012- Reloaded on Defense
2013- ?Reload on WR?

At first I wanted Sanders, but at this point, they should probably just pass on him and spend the rest of their capspace on defense. Draft a WR high.

Again, I'm curious: how do you figure?

People know how the RFA process works, so why are people pretending to be surprised when nothing is happening well in advance of the deadline?

I'm neither surprised nor pretending to be surprised.

RFA signings are exceedingly rare. Waiting until as late as April 24 to know whether or not you have a 3d round pick is silly unless there's a good reason for it. Maybe Sanders and the Patriots have been negotiating for 3 weeks. Doubtful. If someone else was going to sign him to an offer sheet, it would have happened, so he's not exactly high in the leverage department.

Anything is possible. My read on the situation is that it was something the Patriots considered three weeks ago, and it didn't happen. The only thing that makes me wonder is that I don't think they are going to wait for the draft with $10 million in cap space, so I expect they still intend to do something. But I would be surprised if anyone really thinks it's Sanders, other than the people in this thread.

Again, why would they need to negotiate for three weeks, and why we conclude that since nothing has happened nothing is going to happen?

Fact is, while it probably won't happen, there's absolutely nothing to suggest this is any more or less likely to occur than existed three weeks ago.

Actually there IS a reason for the Pats to be waiting. The Steelers are currently 2.5MM uinder the cap and still have their rookies to sign. By waiting until the last minute (4/19) the Steelers might have to use that what little cap space they have on some minor signings. Even minor signings at this point could make it tougher to match any offer the Pats make.

The tougher it is for the Steelers to sign Sanders, the less it will take for the Pats to grab him and keep him. At this point there isn't a huge rush to do this deal. the Pats off season program doesn't start until the 15th.

I think that the fact he hasn't signed his tender means something could still be brewing with the pats

You do see our depth chart at WR right? it's a complete joke...we need more than a rookie and a slot guy who gets hurt every year

Do RFAs sign tenders before they have to? Why would you ever do that?

There is exactly zero reason for him to sign his tender early.
