Bedard and what we have in cap space

I can't believe they will save 12 million for draft picks, incentives, and emergency money. If that's true then we have a lot of holes to fill with 7 million dollars.

Why should the Pats save 8 to 12 million for draft picks? They don't have that many. It just seems like a lot of cap room for so few draft picks.

However, the Patriots should be budgeting anywhere from $8-12 million to save for draft picks, incentives, and any possible extensions they would like to do before free agency next year. - See more at: Patriots cap space update - Extra Points - Boston.com

He is taking into account extensions next year. If we don't want to extend any..they we have more $$

He said incentives and emergency money too, usually they leave 5 million for signing people in case of injuries. He is grossly overestimating the draft pick money though. Someone on here posted it shouldn't be more than 3 million.

Gotta read the article..i posted above...if they want to extend mccourty, spikes ect before NEXT FA..they need to say that $$. Extensions for next year and their plan will play a big part. unless you would like to let spikes walk and maybe mccourty down the road..then we have much more $$ to play with this FA

Eh, I agree with him. Seems about right.

3-7 mill..not sure enough for abraham and another pass rusher let alone sanders. But who knows maybe more restructures coming

This was already being discussed in a few other threads, so might want to merge this. Ths jist of it is:

- Bedard's overall cap space number look reasonable
- His analysis is off though, because during the Top 51 time of the offseason and the number of draft picks the Pats have, we're really looking at only $1 - $2M needed for draft picks.
- Extensions could be possible, but can't assume Pats are working on that (only real candidates are Spikes, Wendell, and McCourty at this point, and McCourty has two years left on his deal so not urgent)

That leaves the incentives, which should only account for a few million. That could be paid for with a victory in the Fanene appeal. So Pats could potentially spend upwards of $12M more in free agency and be fine (plus, each signing knocks off $500K of someone who's currently in the top 51).

i didn't see a thread dedicated to the cap..maybe i missed it

Edit: i see it now

Thanks guys. I'm not very good with this cap stuff. There are so many things to account for in the calculations.

7 million should get them Abraham and Sanders, I think, but I'm not sold on them getting Sanders. They need a receiver from somewhere, however, and I prefer a proven NFL commodity to anyone they might draft.

Heard DHB is talking to the Jets, for those who keep pushing him.

let stone hand DHB join them. They could have calvin johnson sign and it would scare me..look at their QBs

Too early to worry about extensions when Cannon is your right tackle and you need two wide receivers.

No it isn't...smart franchises think about the future as well as the present. You need to think about being competitive for longer than just this year and that includes saving $$ for extending your own next FA

Haven't seen much of DHB and know little about him. I only put that in because I keep seeing people pushing for him here.

I like Sanders - watching him, Brown and Wallace out there, it looked like Pitt had cloned the guys - but I remain unsure about the Pitt route-running and tree. Receivers in Pitt seemed to catch most of their passes after Ben ran around in circles for a 10-count.

So I'm not sure Sanders would flourish here in a timing offense. I like his skill set, though, and would rate him quite a bit above D. Jones (who's pretty good, but should be a third option).

Sanders is a good route runner from what i hear from those around the league

They have their WR1 and WR2 already: AH and DA

Sanders if he comes and Abraham should IMO be a bit below $7M in cap charges this year. Perhaps as low as $5.8, but probably more.

We are likely to be able to get Lloyd back for less then $2M as well if Sanders falls through.

AH is not their #1...he does split out to that position sometimes (#2 spot more)..but no..not a #1

Easy to say this until Cannon misses his first block and Brady is gone for the year.
