I agree it's a need right up there with CB, but really how good is Donald jones going to be, buffalo didn't even want him. Sanders is a good player I guess it depends on the contract

Really, how good is Danny Woodhead going to be, the Jets didn't even want him.

Really, how good is Wes Welker going to be, the Chargers didn't even want him.

Really, how good is Andre Carter going to be, the Redskins didn't even want him.

Really, how good is Rodney Harrison going to be, the Chargers didn't even want him.

Really, how good is Tyrone Poole going to be, the Panthers didn't even want him.

Really, how good is Otis Smith going to be, the Jets didn't even want him.

And so on.

And 3 were thrilled to stand on the sidelines in their street clothes squirting water into the mouths of the guys that hoist the FG net on game day.

And Moss was completely written off in 2007 by everyone. We can play that game all day.

Lol no you need to take into account production. Welker has a **** ton Donald jones has next to none most of it against us

I was against the Jones signing at first, as I was in 2007 about giving up a #2 for Welker. I was impressed with Welker, but not impressed enough to give up a #2 pick. Obviously I was wrong about that, and the Pats coaching staff was obviously impressed enough by Jones that they signed him. Who's to say what Jones could do in this offense. The game plan this off season, looks like the Pats are trying to become more explosive, worst case scenario w/Jones is he's a more explosive replacement for Deion Branch.

though most of the videos on Jones are of him getting destroyed by Wilfork, and then Raheem Brock. I do like Jones' size and decent speed.

Sanders would be a nice pickup as well. Then a draft pick, and we are done WR-wise.

I mostly agree, although there is a slight difference in that those were all crappy organizations that probably didn't even realize what kind of talent they had.

OTOH, while the Steelers are a solid organization, I'd be willing to bet that they want to re-sign him, but poor cap management has come back to bite them so hard that they might just not have the option.

The Bills aren't a crappy organization?

There's a reason he isn't tendered higher.
Yeah, because the Steelers effed up their cap so much that they're basically forced to risk the $700k or so that it would have cost to tender him a level higher.

A nice reporting bonus that's not prorated should be perfect for this situation.

This is false. They had 4 WRs signed to the Roster at the start of free agency.

They had Lloyd, Ebert, K. Aiken, and Andre Holmes.
No,I don't count Slater as a WR since he's used there only in an emergency..

I should've clarified, I meant "one wide receiver who the team wouldn't be laughed at for putting on the field". There, happy now?

Anyway, back to Sanders. Kind of surprised at his tender. He has been better than Wallace for the past 1.5 years. Would love to have him. Signing him definitely means Lloyd is done.

After going into the season the past couple years and having FA/rookie WR flop because they couldn't pick up the system, going into the season withy ONLY FA and rookies is a pretty scary thought.

If I go through all the random scrubs they've brought in my list of failures would outweigh your list of success. I don't care that they brought him in, just that he probably isn't the answer. Maybe sanders is but hell come at a steep cost

By the way how bad can ocho cinco be he's COMIN TO PLAY WITH TOMMY BOI.
Oh wait ...

I suspect that the Pats liked him coming out college and what they have seen over the past 3 years (plenty of tape and game action, given that it is the Steelers) has only confirmed what they saw in their pre-draft evaluations. As someone mentioned earlier, he is versaltile as a WR and can also return punts. I'm in.

What's your point? Obviously BB isn't going to hit homeruns with every guy. It just goes into his value system. Buy low on guys you think can be big hits instead of buying high on guys who will likely be big hits but if you whiff you're completely screwed.

So what's the answer then? Because you don't want someone for cheap who was a castoff of another team or someone to come at a steep cost.

I'm just saying Donald jones isn't any answer. And sanders isn't a castoff but he sure as hell isn't coming cheap ? I want proven players or better scouting to get one in the draft. Sorry that I don't think amendola, sanders, jones is some huge step in the right direction.

BTW: one important note, should the Patriots decide to pursue Sanders. . . .

The current CBA explicitly states that there cannot be any terms that apply differently to the player's current team than to the new team. In other words, nothing contingent on "5 games in the state of Pennsylvania" or "a TE who caught 10 TD passes in 2012."

OTOH, they can do things that would simply be financially difficult for the Steelers to match.

An injury-prone skill position player? Sorry, but he belongs in Foxboro.

Sanders is a good player, I'd be sad to see him go.

His injury history is not so much games missed (although he has been dinged some), so much as what seemed to be chronic problems with his feet.

He was injured in the Pit/GB SB, and subsequently had surgeries on *both* feet, not just the injured one, in 2011. So there was concern (I believe Tomlin himself voiced this in 2012) that he might not be able to stay healthy. I think most Steelers fans like his talent but consider him somewhat brittle, his full slate of games last year notwithstanding. (It should be noted that *Sanders* was the 3rd rd pick and Antonio Brown the 6th rounder in 2010...really it was the injuries that held Sanders back and allowed Brown to develop as he has).

Without meaning to open up a huge can of worms here, I've got to ask: wouldn't this be a strange year to sign an RFA, given the Pats small number of picks in 2013? And if the argument for signing an RFA is that the Pats are in win-now mode, why essentially swap Welker (more durable, knows system) for Amendola? (Note I really like Amendola, but he seems like another "brittle" guy, and unless Brady actually plays 5 more years I'm not sure what good Amendola's years 4 and 5 does for the Pats if they are in "win-now" mode?)

Then again, maybe the Pats are thinking that if they bring in Sanders they essentially have insurance for Amendola (it's unlikely both would be injured at the same time)

I should've clarified, I meant "one wide receiver who the team wouldn't be laughed at for putting on the field". There, happy now?

No, because you never know with guys. Look at what Welker did. He was a UDFA with San Diego who got cut after 1 game, went to Miami and became their hardest working WR and then to the Pats to become one of the best receivers in the game.

Is it more likely that those 3 will be gone? Yes. But, again, you never know. I mean, the Pats cut Ebert and let him sit for weeks before bringing him back. And he showed enough when he got back to warrant a future's deal. So, we'll just have to wait and see.
