Program Alert: Wes Welker on NFLN at 7 tonight

The Pats closed the door on Welker.

And that is the descision that the best run sports franchise for the last dozen years has decided. Does it stink...sure but I think DA is going to be a great player particulary since he is more versitle and will be playing in a system that favors the slot guy. Its a TE system (and as stated its the best tandem all time) lets spread out the offence.

Lets not worry about stats. Pats won superbowls without stat guys. We all know who stats are for. Why keep talking about it? Anyone who does is obviouly one of those people BB was talking about.

Now about "closing doors", lets hope that most of the whiners on this forum close the door on WWW as well. That way the board can move on from its current preschool level.

Hardest part was leaving Tom?

Apparently not that hard considering he left for only 2 million more
It's more then that when you factor in taxes/cost of living. Athletes are taking that in to consideration more and more these days, which is not a good thing for any mass/cali/ny/ect teams

God knows the poor bastards can't afford it.

I'm sure Wes is hard on cash with the over $40 million he will have earned from football....

As much as I wanted to move on if the money wasn't right I'm sad right now. Not that the sky is falling, but about how petty Bill can be. 1 more million a year and you keep the guy.

Welker looked sad today, I can't believe they let a productive receiver go for the price of one vet min jag like Niko Koutouvides.

Thinking about this more this may do more damage psychologically to the team than having a million less dollars would.

Plus the Pats PO'd their QB.

No it means why the f should the play for 50 cents on the dollar when they don't have to.
By playing for teams in Florida or Texas means a ten million dollar contract is worth probably 2 million more than Cal. Ma. or NY or MD or the other socialist states.

I'm not one who supports high tax states politics but your example is way off. MA income tax is what, 5.3%, enough for someone of modest means like myself to move to NH but 5.3% of ten megabucks is $53K, chickenfeed in perspective. Not enough to force a rational decision.

Looks like you read Gasper and were, thus, minformed.

Curran had the real scoop that Amendola was signed on Tuesday - 24 hours before Welker signed with Denver.

The Pats closed the door on Welker.

which was still after welker was given an offer, which he refused.

the time line:

Welker gets an offer of 2/10 with incentives up to 16, he says nah im going to shop myself around

The patriots sign DA at 5/31

The titans offer welker 2/15 He says no because they are not a contender

The broncos offer him 2/12 no incentives, welker ponders it and askes the pats if they are willing to match, the pats say no, 2/10 incentives to make it 16 is our best offer

Welker decides to walk away.

The pats were willing to sign welker at 2/10 incentives to 16 after signing DA. Welker walked for 1 mil a year despite the potential to earn more as a Pat.

This move is on Welker, and i promise he will regret it just like branch regretted talking his way to Seattle. The patriots have not won the division this many times since kraft took over by making poor deals to hurt the team long term. DA is our Slot+ for the next 5 years, welker had maybe two more in him.

Brady's window might be closing but Kraft and BB need to plan for the FUTURE. I think brady has a chance to win a superbowl in his 40's but in order for that to happen we need to be smart about the roster, get a top 5 defense again and move on from there.
