Year 2 Expectations

Not open for further replies.
My problem with your OP is that numbers alone are not going to dictate how much they improve in 2013. They need to stay healthy, get better at understanding the scheme, become more experienced in reading offenses and reacting accordingly.

For example, Hightower and Wilson were sub-standard in coverage last year. They need to improve. Hightower seemed to get sealed off one too many times vs to run.

Jones was outstanding for the first 9 or so games, but needs to stay healthy.

Dennard had a very nice rookie year but he also needs to be a better in zone coverage and again, like the other kids learn the opposing personnel and their tendencies.

For all of them, they need to become a bit mentally tougher when things are going against them. For example, great defenses don't allow 21 straight points at home during a conference championship game.

I believe the ceiling is pretty high for those four players but your projected stats are only part of the answer.

No, ridiculous is what you posted, predicting Ebert to get 100 catches is just more ridiculous.

Jones is not Watt or Pierre-Paul.

You know this how? Pierre-Paul 30, 4.5. Watt 56, 5.5.. Jones had more sacks than either of them as a rookie..

You aren't saying its possible, you are saying you EXPECT IT

Not by the ridiculous amounts you EXPECT

You EXPECT him to go from 25 tackles to 85. Ed Reed had 49. Eric Weddle had 83. Pollard had 71. Goldson had 53. Hell Patrick Willis had 88 and the leading tackler on the Patriots had 87. Sure I expect Wilson to have 85 and Hightower to have 95.

Oh gawd, please don't.

You know this how? Pierre-Paul 30, 4.5. Watt 56, 5.5.. Jones had more sacks than either of them as a rookie..

Dude you're so negative you'd think you were talking on the forum for the Rams or something. You never see the best in any situation it's actually sad to witness. I feel bad for you Andrew it must be awful to live life always expecting the worst.

You didn't say assists, you said tackles. He had 25. Your EXPECTATIONS are silly whether you move the goalposts and change the stats or not.

Pretty sure we always use total tackles when speaking to them at least I do.

Arrington had 7 interceptions in 2011 but Alfonzo Dennard couldn't pick 8 in our scheme that is designed to maximize turnovers? And if we get a true #1 on the other side he will certainly be thrown at.

What do you expect from these players in their 2nd season? These are mine.

Chandler Jones - 72 tackles, 13.5 sacks, 8 batted balls, 5 forced fumbles
Dont'e Hightower - 95 tackles, 7.5 sacks, 2 interceptions, 8 pass defends, 2 forced fumbles
Tavon Wilson - 85 tackles, 5 interceptions, 12 pass defends, 2 fumble recoveries
Jake Bequette - 15 tackles, 2.5 sacks
Nate Ebner - 20 tackles(12 ST), 1 interception, 1 forced fumble, 2 fumble recoveries, 3 pass defends
Alfonzo Dennard - 55 tackles, 8 interceptions, 1 forced fumble, 18 pass defends
Justin Francis - 20 tackles, 4 sacks, 1 forced fumble, 2 fumble recoveries
Jamie Ebert - Cut in camp
Marcus Fortson - Makes practice squad
Markus Zusevics - Rotational swing tackle with limited snaps.

I really think a full offseason and understanding the NFL is going to take Jones, Hightower and Dennard to elite levels.

This is one of the most optimistic posts I've ever read.

You have our 2012 defensive draft account for:
362 tackles - more than 1/3 of the combined tackle/assists for 2012

27.5 sacks - we had 37 total in 2012, with 7 coming against an awful miami dolphins OL in one game

16 interceptions - 20 total in 2012

In summary you have last years rookie class account for 34% of the tackles, 75% of the sacks, and 80% of the interceptions, based off of 2012 totals.

Don't get mad at us for thinking your numbers are awfully optimistic and throwing some reality into the mix.

It's cool to be hopeful, but you're just going to be bummed when it doesn't come close to your expectations. This is a dream scenario we'd all love to see, not what will actually happen.

But hey, lets break it down

200% increase in tackles 108% increase in sacks. 60% increase in batted balls. 67% increase in forced fumbles

120% increase in tackles. 90% increase in sacks, infinite increase in Ints, as he had 0, 160% increase in passes defensed

280% increase in tackles. 25% increase in Ints, 100% increase in pass defensed

He had no stats, and made the game day roster 3 times.

1 tackle on defense

60% increase in tackles, 167% increase in Ints. 157% increase in passes defensed

Was 6/3/0/0

Its just unrealistic.[/QUOTE]

Nink had 74 TOTAL tackles and 6.5 sacks in 2011 as our SLB.. You think Hightower in his 2nd NFL season is a less productive player than Nink was then?

Arrington was in the right place at the right time an awful lot, he was the beneficiary of many tipped balls that would have never been in his play otherwise.

Comparing players stats to someone on another team is rather pointless, just because JPP and JJ Watt had outstanding 2nd seasons doesn't make it the norm, it makes them special. They're surrounded by outstanding talent that helped them succeed. JPP and Watt would not have had their 2nd seasons on our DL.

I'm looking at snap count and overall 2nd year improvement and being optimistic

Jones is the only prediction thats realistic, the rest of them are ridiculous.

It isn't being negative to point out your EXPECTATIONS are just unrealisitc.
You just said you EXPECT Jones will play like what may be the 2 best DL in the NFL right now, and certainly are both top 10, for no real reason other than hope.
JPP was a part time player as a rookie, and is a totally different kind of football player than Jones.
Watt is a 300 lb 34 DE, again totally different.

Look, I think that you and I talking football is just like night and day.
My fault for coming into your Pollyanna expectation thread and inserting reality.
Going forward, I will leave your posts alone and focus on post that have football knowledge in them. Have yourself a great day.

Even Jones is a best you could ever possibly hope for not an 'expectation'

You can give you own predictions? It appears however you'd rather just criticize my predictions.. Appears you've taken the cool kid approach.

I actually think the OP was designed around offering your own predictions not criticize mine. I might be wrong but at least I have balls enough to put myself out there and receive feedback whether it be negative or positive. Rather do that than troll around this site like a little **** talking trash with my keyboard to build up my manhood.

My OP gives you the choice of what type of man you want to be.. So far you're deciding to be the 2nd guy feel free to be the other guy anytime now Andy.

People who have football knowledge do not feel the need to put down others like you do they have self confidence and belief in there knowledge they offer facts and attempt to teach others. The other group of people are a insecure man with minimal intelligence who uses aggression as a means to disguise the reality of it all themselves. I don't know which you are but so far you are showing more tendencies in our interactions to the 2nd guy in this grouping as well.

What??

....

I said you can offer your own predictions/expectations instead of just critiquing mine. But instead you're acting like the cool kid in high school who makes fun of other people to hide his own insecurities and feel more internal worth.

Did you get that or do you want to call me so I can explain it?

You are more than welcome to offer your own stats and expectations. Really love to read them..

im gonna make some predictions just some basic stuff im not gonna get into much detail

Jones: 11 sacks 4 batted passes 63 tackles
Dennard: 6 interceptions 11 passes defended
Wilson: 5 interceptions 58 tackles
Bequette: 3 sacks 2 forced fumbles
Francis: 4 sacks 1 forced fumbles
Ebner: 17 tackles 2 interceptions 1 forced fumble

not much detail but i think the OP was a little optimistic but isnt as unreasonable as some people are making it out to be
