Ozzie Newsome and Ravens Front Office Better than the Patriots' FO - How?

What Brooks states regarding defending NE proves my thesis....

(Posted this in another thread)

Verses a team like the Ravens, figuring out where the battle was lost is very easy......The Ravens D Line owned the Patriots and forced NE to become one dimensional.
Here are the facts:

NE executed 27 2nd down plays....12 were runs....for 34 yds total (9 under center hand offs to RBs for 24 yds)
NE executed 15 3rd down plays......4 were runs....for 11 yds total (7 yards from shot gun direct snap gimmick......so....3 runs with Brady under center totaling 4 yds)

Summary: 0n 2nd and 3rd down combined....12 under center hand offs to RBs for 28 yds...2.3 yds/play

Lets remember that Baltimore was in nickel for a majority of their defensive snaps (as proven by individual photos displayed in another thread)

It's as clear as day that not only did NE significantly lose the LOS battle, but they accepted defeat by avoiding direct battle on the LOS. They accepted defeat by not even attempting a single play action pass on 3rd down. What's the point...the Ravens D line owned the LOS, even in nickel...and NE became one dimensional. Baltimore executed the bend don't break defense near flawlessly, clamping down on NE inside the 20. And because NE lacks a field stretching play maker, Baltimore simply allowed Brady to play small ball, and NE eventually kept shooting themselves in the foot....drops and turn overs.
No doubt, Gronk was a missing piece to NE's O puzzle, but the fact remains that even in nickel, the Ravens D Line owned NE's. Can NE go into '13 with the same O line and expect to start winning the LOS battles against the more physical D lines? Look who they lost to, Ariz, Balt, Seat, SF, Balt.

its all about longevity though...the ravens have had alot of HOF'ers that have kept them in it.

Next year I would expect the Pats will be right in it again....but look at the Ravens who already are talking about having to Cut key players like Boldin, jacoby Jones, letting Ed Reed walk.

that team is going to be in dissaray next year....its pretty amazing to think what the pats have done when other so-called Dynasties like the Steelers are finally going through rebuilding years

Next year you will see the Ravens be the biggest drop off for the superbowl runner up in history

IDK, I might give the edge to the Ravens. Newsome has produced more HOFers than Belichick has. Newsome drafted Lewis, Reed, Suggs, Ogden, Ngata, Lewis, and whole bunch of solid players.

Ironically, his weak point in evaluation looks to be where the Patriots' greatest strength is - QB. Flacco is decent, but Boller was a horrible waste of a draft pick.

Belichick the Coach has overcome a lot of the mistakes Belichick the GM has made over the last decade or so. I think the Ravens especially before Harbaugh were driven on talent.

I think Belichick basically picked Ogden and Lewis for Newsome

The Ravens front office has been excellent and Newsome has always been the key piece to that success. They rarely miss on a first rounder and they draft really well overall. Like every other team they have their misses and like any other successful team their success comes with a price when their rookie deals come due. What is going to be really interesting to watch with them is how they handle the coming transition, as their old HOF quality players are starting to leave and they will have to rebuild their defense over the next few years, just as Belichick has had to do the past 3-4 years. Whether or not they can stay in the hunt, especially with key players like Flacco demanding huge money, is going to be really interesting to watch. I think they are going to have a pretty big drop-off over the next couple of years but their front office will do a good job and get them back to the upper echelon of the league in a few seasons. Flacco is obviously the big decision facing them, and even though I would guess they will break the bank for him I wouldn't do it. despite his success in the play-offs I simply don't believe in him, I think he is more a product of his receivers going up and winning battles for the ball than he a great passer, and I would let him walk rather than pay him like Brady, Rodgers, or Manning. I would go after Alex Smith or make a deal with the SeaHawks for Matt Flynn rather than pay Flacco 100 million, and then use the cap savings to build the rest of the team.

BB was gone when lewis was drafted.......but Lewis was drafted with a 1st rounder that BB acquired in a trade a year earlier...but that's as far as the connection goes

the ravens made the best FO move of the year.....replacing cameron with caldwell saved the team from going down the toilet.....

ballsy move that worked and at this moment, they deserve all the credit in the world.

Dont sell Champ Bailey short.

He deserves his due.

BB had done significant prep for that draft before he was fired.
