Does anyone know if Aaron's injury should progressively heal on its own, or is this one where he'll have to have surgery after the season before it can fully heal? If you recall, it was a high ankle sprain, and of course, Gronkowski needed surgery after the Super Bowl; many athletes tough it out during the season, knowing they will only get to about 60-70% before offseason surgery and rehab.

It's unfortunate that we still haven't seen the real Aaron Hernandez this year, as his training camp play was off-the-charts good. His 2012 preseason form was comparable to Gronk's in 2011, both destined to be breakout seasons, and AH was described by the Pats beat writers as "uncoverable."

This year it has been frustrating to watch Hernandez come back from the injury. While he is clearly giving full effort and grinding out yards, it's obvious that he isn't able to get to the second level, make strong cuts to get past defenders, become a deep threat, or even break tackles.

So, is this the best we will see him at this season? Or is there any hope that over the next few weeks he could get some explosiveness back?

He's been very effective the last couple of weeks. Nothing to be worried about IMO.

BTW, Who's idea was it to go right back to A-Hern after he gold his bell rung and lip bloodied on a big hit over the middle? I don't blame him for alligator-arming the pass which led to the Aldon Smith pick.

I think you've forgotten how good AH is when healthy. He's been reliable because he knows the routes and can play the position, but mainly he catches the ball 4-8 yards down the field and gets tackled. If you didn't know it was Aaron Hernandez, you'd think he was just another player, with no notable shiftiness, speed or acceleration.

This is correct. Would be shocked if he doesn't have surgery on the ankle in the offseason. He is still probably the best second tight end in the game even at 60 or 70 percent though.
