Some of you say he has no position. I say great! BB loves molding versatile football players. Was Edelman a WR in college? This kid is the furthest thing from a cancer in the lockerroom. Any who say different are just hating.
I'm a Tebow hater, I admit it freely. So let me try to put my bias aside, and let's ignore any of the potential "distraction" discussion.
Does Tebow have some athletic ability? Sure, tons. No doubt about it. Does he have some versatility? Sure. So do many, many players. I can understand that that has a certain appeal, but that only gets you to the first cut, IMHO.
Is he a QB? Not by any stretch of the imagination, not even close. Edelman came out as a 7th round STer who worked his way in as a backup slot receiver, and who has also served as a defensive back in need. Where are we going to use Tebow? The most likely place that I could truly see him getting meaningful snaps is as an Aaron Hernandez kind of "move TE" where we try to get him in space to use his athleticism. I think that's the place where he could have the earliest impact. We're not going to incorporate the wildcat into our offense in any meaningful way.
Could I see a role for Tebow as a versatile movement player and Hernandez backup? Sure. But our roster is already very crowded at TE, and his contract is not insubstantial, so there would have to be enough confidence that he would be likely to get enough playing time to warrant the investment. So I personally think it's a long shot, trying to factor out my bias and the distraction issues. Not impossible, but a long shot. And the other stuff is at least a concern to be considered before taking that on. Again, not out of the question, but I think it's unlikely.
