Eagles Release DE Jason Babin - should Pats claim/sign him?

Well if you called him garbage, there is no disputing the fact that he is garbage.

:bricks:

He stinks.

Sucks vs the run, overrated as a passrusher and questionable character to go along with that package.

And he managed to piss off the eagles fans who were rather "upset" with that ****ty ass team. Nevermind his offseason running with the bulls ideas.

Big surprise seeing him gone.

I really hope you didn't register just to post that.

Yes, I have a lot of time on my hands and have nothing better to do. Seriously, occassional lurker who just assumed that everyone on this board knows that any Wiki reference has an implicit FWIW to go along with it.

From what I can gather, Babin has been succesful as a "wide 9" defensive end where he is more or less pinning his ears back and rushing the passer constantly and has thrived particularly under Jim Washburn at Tennessee and then Philadelphia.

BB made use of Mark Anderson last year and was regarded as a speed rusher prior to his arrival in New England. Babin has had calf injuries this year but has 3 sacks in his last 3 games. An expensive specialist but could bring some much needed heat on the QB, even more so if Chandler Jones is out for an extended period of time.

It doesn't appear that Jones is going to miss much time, as he was seen in the locker room yesterday without any limp etc. It may have just been due to the short week/turnaround etc.

I just don't see the waiver wire priority list favoring the NEP in this instance, as someone else will almost surely snatch him up.

Okay. Sorry, I had (erroneously) pegged you as a one-off troll...my apologies.

Theres a reason Dillon and Moss chose the Patriots and it wasnt "to cash in".

Dont underestimate the allure of a ring, winning week after week, not losing week after week and even just belonging to a team with its act together... especially to a vet.
Since I believe both Dillon and Moss were acquired by trade, I don't think either of them chose the Patriots. I do see your larger point, however.

Dillon and Moss were "consulted" before their respective trades (redo your deal or be cut). So, they did chose....Play for the Pats or be unemployed :p

If he is healthy, wants to give 100%, can fit in scheme and locker room wise, I have no issue with Babin being on this roster and cutting a lesser player.

Would not be surprised if HOU picks him up as their D has had a tough go of it lately.

So are the Eagles deciding to pull a Colts move, and tank to move up the draft board?

No, theyre and cutting/benching to see what they have in younger players by giving them playing time before the total house cleaning.

Reid will be fired, Lurie said 8 - 8 would not be acceptable and the Eagles stand today at 3 - 8. The Eagles have already fired two Execs from the front office prior the Thanksgiving.

When I was writing that I had in fact overlooked that these two were acquired by trades.

Randy Moss - Raiders trade Moss to Patriots for 4th-round pick - NFL - ESPN - "I've made a lot of money and I still have money in the bank. So by me coming to an organization such as the New England Patriots, why would money be a factor?" Moss said in a conference call. "I'm still in awe that I'm a part of this organization."

Corey Dillon to me, just wanted to go to a team that stood a chance of winning. I'm guessing he'd have signed with the Patriots because of this as much as anyone.

As a situational pass rusher Babin would be a great signing. He's about as useless as Clay Matthews in the run defense game though.

I'd have to believe one of the 25 teams in front of us will make a claim. He doesn't have much owed for the rest of the season.. I could see the Packers putting in a claim. And honestly the Jets because they need to do something to show the fans they are still trying.

i have a feeling the jests will make a run at him just because they suck so bad at getting pressure and they love their free agents.

star system in Phila?

FWIW
Things have not been completely harmonious on the defensive front during this seven-game slide. According to a source, a frustrated Trent Cole walked out during a defensive line meeting recently. Behind the Wide-9, the defense compiled 50 sacks a year ago. This season they have just 18 — the same number Babin got all by himself last year.

Some players were apparently rubbed the wrong way by the Washburn-Babin relationship, feeling that he was treated a bit differently than the rest of them. Babin is now gone. And it’s very possible Washburn will be as well in the near future.

Teams will need cap space which at least takes the Jets out.

Babin, like every other Eagle, has totally quit on the team. but he did have 18 sacks last season. let's give him a look

Not till next season. I believe he was cut because of injury.

just a note: Babin cannot be compared to Dillon and Moss in terms of "wanting to come here".... Dillon and Moss were TRADED for. Not claimed or signed.

Goes by last year's record. Not this year's.

You don't get 36 sacks in 43 games without being a good pass rusher...
