Anybody ever taken the Bowl Bus out to Gillette?

Ideally I'd get the Pats Train out but I'll not be in Boston until the Thursday pre Cardinals so I'm not sure I'd get tickets to somebody recommended this Bowl Bus

I haven't seen any reviews here on the bus, but I am sure there are many here that would be curious to hear from anyone who may have tried it as well.

On the other hand I have read plenty of very mixed reviews in regards to the train. Most common is that it tends to barely get you there in time (or sometimes not in time for kickoff), and that you need to hustle to catch the departing train as well.

I was under the impression that you could purchase tickets from the T in advance though; is that not the case?

edit: I see that the train tickets need to be purchased in person and are not available over the internet. If that's the only thing holding you back, do you know someone in the Boston area that could pick them up for you ahead of time?

I know some folks in the area but feel a bit rude about asking them to head to the station, and the benefit of the bus is that it gets there 3 hours before kick off so I can show the new wife around the stadium and tailgating experience.

Any objection to me posting the question in the main forum to drum up some interest, I'm member on other sporting forums that would see me banned for using the wrong forum?

I'd agree with JMT that the train, while a viable option, is extremely no frills. You'll probably have time to wander through the pro-shop or, if you've got friends who happen to have parked near the train area, time for a drink with them... otherwise you basically just head to the stadium - it's about a 10-15 minute walk through the parking lot.

The nicest thing about the train, coming from Providence, is you can find parking for nada.. you do not have a lot of time before the game, but you avoid impaired drivers on the way out...

We pack an inexpensive cooler and pick up some grinders, and a drink.. usually find the cooler on the way out.. it is an economical way to get there.

going on my first ever NFL game (Colts-Patriots game on the 18th). was considering the train but you guys are discouraging me.. lol

i'm arriving at boston (south station) at 11:00 am at the day of the game; original plan was to catch the patriots train at 11:20. so, some quick questions:

1. are those 'patriots game' train tickets cash/ ticket window only? or i can purchase then in advance online? (im not from the US, will arrive at NYC 4 days before the game)
2. assuming i cant purchase those train tickets in advance, im pretty sure i wont make it to the 11:20 train on time, so renting a car seens like the only option left; in this case, whats is the best alternative - assuming i dont care much for the tailgating experience, and would hate to stay stucked in traffic after the game? leaving the car a little further away from the stadium and catching a cab is a viable option? (parking lot recommendations are much appreciated)

As far as when you can buy train tickets, unfortunately for some unknown reason they don't have that option. Looking at their schedule though it doesn't look like you'll be able to catch the train unless you can get there a bit earlier: it says it will be leaving South Station at 11:00 am.

If you're not into tailgating then the train wouldn't be a bad option for you ... but it sounds like you may not have much of a choice.

Assuming you rent a car I would suggest finding a private lot north of the stadium, on the other (northbound) side. That way you don't have to pass the stadium on your way out.

Just FYI about the Bowl Bus. I just got confirmation that the downtown Bus from South Station is running for the November 11th game. Will post a review after the game. 29 seats left is anyone else is interested.

Not specifically, though if I recall correctly Ian did have a meetup in the preseason up in New Hampshire.

On certain road games the Pats writers sometimes have a 'tweetup' where fans get together before a game. Also some bars have annual road trips (e.g., I know a couple places in the Naples/Ft Meyers area that have an annual event, renting a bus and going to the Miami game).

It may be too late to put something together for this season but I think it would be a great idea for at least one regional get-together for next season.

That what I'm hoping to do starting next year is start a yearly regional meet weekend and do a big get together Saturday before the game and then go to the game as a big group
