Love the whole our **** don't stink talk from their fan base. Now looks like their 7-9 upcoming record is 'tainted'. Cheaters really do never win I guess.

People are afraid to open up the can of worms that is the Steeler steroid issue because it would lead virtually the entire league to being implicated in PEDs.

That may need to happen at the end of the day for players long term health.

Wada are days away from announcing a truth and reconciliation program across all sports. Its pretty much a done deal, but they are waiting on the UCI press release on Armstrong and USPS on Monday.

This whole doping scandal with the Steelers couldn't happen to a better team, or at a better time.

What with all of Goodell's emphasis on "player safety" he won't be able to avoid coming down hard on their anointed franchise. Heck, after the decisions handed down to New England and New Orleans, the decisions he'll be forced to issue regarding Pittsburgh will HAVE to be major.

Can you imagine the outrage across the league if Goodell tries to soften the blow here? He has set precedent for heaven's sake. A half million dollar fine for the coach & a loss of a 1st round pick for a violation of the league operations manual? Please.

Goodell BETTER come down with the iron hammer on Pittsburgh if doping is proved, otherwise, he'll be seen as the two-faced rat bastard he is.

I hope you're right. My guess? He does nothing.

The guy makes the right call and it's gambling conspiracy? You must be in the tin foil hat brigade leadership training course.

You should really reassess your definition of "right call" before accusing others of having a tin foil hat.

There is never a time when it's the "right call" to turn down 2 points that puts your team up by 2 scores versus accepting to put your team in a position where 1 score can win the game.

Sorry but no. The only thing that is fishy here is the 2 point safety would have covered the 7.5 point spread. And without it, the 49ers didn't.

Fair enough. My point was the NFL is a shady organization and two things need to happen.

1. They need to be investigated.

And as far as steroids goes....

2. Legalize it!

Sounds crazy, but that's the only realistic solution to this. Same as Marijuna.

It's in every freaking sport from football to cycling to the Olympics. Legalize it already. Leave it up to the athletes.

Illegal steroids are no different than legal drug substitutes that enhance performance. Better to bring it out in the open, teach people the consequences of use, and leave it up to the players. You want to bulk yourself up by risky means, sign an agreement that gets the league off the hook and do as you please. You want to do it the natural way, that's fine too.

It's the 21st century and this is just the beginning. It's too big to put back in the box. Steroids themselves, are just the beginning. Stem cell procedures and other genetic enhancements will eventually become common place.

So you might as well make it available to everyone, rather than give an unfair advantage to those who are currently getting away with it.

What about the volumes of information showing massive health problems and death coming from Steroid and PED use?

Worst argument for the legalisation of PEDs ever.

Agreed. Once you get everyone on the juice, you can just dispense with the football, and start handing out gladius, pilum, hasta and scutum, maybe throw in some wild underfed animals too.

What about the volumes of information saying that's not the case at all?

And why do I want the government or any agency telling me what's good for me or my body? Because YOU are not responsible?

Why should I pay the price of your irresponsibility and for overdosing?

I tell you what, if you really feel the need for Big Brother to keep you in check, fine you or put you in jail because you can't handle it, then let's make it optional. You are more than welcome to sign up for that but don't take away my freedom.

Apples & Oranges.

If you want to use steroids, be my guest. A doctor can write you a scrip for them Heck, I've had regular corticosteroid shots in the past for pain issues.

HOWEVER, the NFL is a private company and as such has the power to make and enforce any rules it so wishes. The players know this. It's why they have p1ss tests to check for NFL banned substances.

The players, the coaches, the owners all know the rules. If they choose to ignore them, or enable others to attempt to evade them, circumvent them, whatever, then the league has the power to punish said behavior.

A big reason its not permitted in the NFL is because the majority of the drugs are criminalized, in one shape or another, NOT because the NFL would otherwise not permit it.

And for the record, the NFL, MLB , NBA and all other leagues have very little interest in stopping their athletes from using. In fact, all the drug tests, not just PED's, are really just a check to see just how much it's being used.

Have you ever looked at how ridiculous the guidelines for testing are? You truly have to be either a complete moron, or just plain NOT care to get caught by one of their tests.

In the NFL for example, they tell you that they test you between May and August of each year....just how STUPID do you have to be to get caught when they specifically tell you when you will be tested, thus giving you ample opportunity to clean your system?

If anything the NFL is helping players do drugs and not get caught while maintaining a clean image.

I'm not paranoid about big brother.

But then I don't fill my body full of chemicals, so my mental health is normal thankfully.

You know, it strikes me as odd that this story didn't get much attention in the media. if it wasn't for this thread, i never would have heard about it.

If he used to be a Patriots team doctor, do you think that would have changed (and wasn't the Steelers team in the debate for team of the decade, so it's not like they weren't good during those years)?

I'd suggest you consider putting up a PayPal donation button on your comments. That way, folks who want to can contribute to your tinfoil addiction fund.

You fill your body full of chemicals every single day. In fact they are an essential component to life and if you didn't, you'd be dead. Your body is nothing but an organic collection of chemicals, chemical, biological and electrical reactions.

But this has nothing to do with paranoia, although I would say your brain health isn't very normal if you consider my argument which is pretty much common knowledge as "paranoia". And if your brain isn't filled with chemicals then I wonder what it is filled with. But I certainly hope, and it does appear, that at least your brain is indeed filled with the necessary chemicals for it to at least perform some of its functions if you are capable of writing that post.

Now this is just an opinion, since I'm not qualified, but I believe you suffer from something much worse than the intake of chemicals, and that's the intake of massive ignorance.

The problem is as a society we're just simply uneducated and too ignorant and lazy to deal with them, so we prefer having someone who is generally not qualified-the government (commonly it's actually the lobbyists of the financial departments of pharmaceutical companies(at least the research departments would pass better laws)- to teach us about them through generic labels followed by laws. Laws usually passed ignorantly, most of the times based on fear, far before they are truly understood, other times for special interests, all wrapped up and sold as a package of good intentions.

The truth is you can kill yourself and destroy your body just as easily with sugar and salt over time as you can with HGH(a protein with endocrine functions) and cocaine(a more complex, but basically another nitrogen compound... nitrogen being one of the most common elements you tend to breathe into your lungs every couple of seconds). The difference is we are not nearly as ignorant and have become pretty comfortable with using sugar and salt compared to the others as long as we follow some general rules.

Of course a lot of us still don't. Which is why so many people end up with diabetes and other heart diseases, and I assume in your case you would be a huge proponent of rounding up all the diabetes patients and sending them to jail rather than hospitals for the choices they made in their lives...like binging on sugar!

All arrogance and jokes aside, in the end it doesn't really matter how much better you think your brain is by not using. For the record though, I personally don't like and don't use drugs either. But that's mainly due to to fear and ignorance. If I knew more about them, maybe I would. But I do support them and support the liberty of those who do and a lot of times applaud those who take the risks to learn how to use them, because eventually it will be passed down into the general public and we'll be able to learn more about them as well. Just as we learned how to use sugar and salt.

But NOT as long as we have laws against them that put these people in jail or suspend them from sports. IMO, all that does is impedes a natural progress and evolution that would otherwise teach us a lot more about them. Personally I'm glad a few countries had the enlightenment to go ahead and decriminalize all drugs and hope that the USA one day follows that lead. Of course we are talking about complete "savages" like the Portuguese, Italians and Spaniards...so we can't possibly follow their example....

One of the problems with the conversation is the use of the term PED. It implies that this group of drugs should be treated the same, when in fact there is a huge difference between, for example, steroids and HGH. Doctor-controlled, carefully administered HGH is probably a good thing for humans engaged in the collision sport that is the NFL, as a way to accelerate healing for the unnatural week after week wounding that takes place. Steroids, on the other hand, just make the entire process worse by creating bodies that nature never intended.
