Thanks. I'm actually going to do an expanded piece tonight breaking down who was in coverage on each play (I started it last night and I'm about half-way through it) which should hopefully explain it better and allow us to make a better evaluation. I get home around 6 tonight so I should be able to finish it sometime thereafter. I should also have it broken down by down, distance, etc. so hopefully it will make for some interesting discussion.

During the last drive, Flacco threw at McCourty exclusively. One when Smith was on his side (which was a completion), and again when Jones was over there (Jones drew a penalty after badly beating McC at the LOS).

Most of the short right attempts (or at least a large number of them) were to Ray Rice in the flat. So those are clearly not McCourty.

Smith spent a lot of time going up against the other CBs especially when Arrington was put out of the game.

Just tested it and it should work.

Great work. So Smith had three targets right with two completion for a total of 21 yards (one was the TD where McCourty was pushed off on with pretty good coverage). Jones didn't catch any right which means that most likely that is all that McCourty would be covering short right.

I actually input every play into a database based on the official scoring from the league, and the link I provided gives you the results. I created the chart on that page just to give you a better visual of the results, which are sortable based on the parameters in the drop down menu. I also checked the overall numbers against the sheet just to make sure the totals matched, but additionally I went back through to confirm all the directions of the throws so it's all accurate

As I said a month ago - I was busy this offseason putting all of these things together

I watched the game as well, but I can't say with any confidence that I know where Smith was lining up the vast majority of the time. I DO know he was all over the field.

If these numbers are true, the claim that Flacco was picking on McCourty in the passing game would seem to be true. I don't think it hurt that McCourty was going up against Torrey Smith, but the numbers would indicate that this is where the Ravens did the majority of their damage.

I rest my case the numbers don't lie some of you so called "experts" need to apologize to Curran and those like myself who claim that ha ha shut down CB Devin McCourty was the goat.

Well the fact that you weren't paying attention sort of erases the validity of your opinion abuot what happened then, no?

There were TWO passes, both to Jones.
That is out of 5. How is 2 of 5 exclusively throwing at one guy?

McCourty had a rough game, but not because of anything these numbers indicate. His coverage was pretty good the whole night, but he's hurt by three things (which are not insignificant things by any stretch):

1) He had two chances at INT's in big spots, and couldn't come up with either of them. One was a real tough play, the other he absolutely should have had.

2) He had a really untimely PI call against him, which was actually a legit call.

3) His tackling was atrocious (though to be fair, the whole team looked off in this regard). I thought he was tackling better so far this year, much closer to his rookie year, but he looked bad on Sunday.

I won't single him out (the front seven provided ZERO pressure on Flacco, which was a much bigger factor IMO), but McCourty did not play well overall.

The entire secondary played poorly, Andy. Not just McCourty. You've stated as much yourself in regard to the defense. And can you quote me where I stated that I wasn't paying attention? I watched the entire game, but couldn't tell you with confidence who Smith matched up with most of the time. I know he was against McCourty at the end, but I couldn't tell you who he went against most the entire game with a straight face. I was watching other members of the total of 22 players on the field and couldn't keep an eye on Torrey Smith the entire time.

And yes, the numbers support that McCourty was targetted the most out of any other corners on the field on deep passes. How you could possibly argue against that given the data, I'm not sure.

Because you would say Arrington played worst don't dismiss the fact that he wasn't thrown against when it counted at the end. AJ the fact that McCourty is a First Round prospect doesn't mean that he's better than Arrington. I cannot wait for McCourty to be BENCHED so you all would change your tunes. McCourty is like box of chocolate what you seen is what you're going to get. if he on Stevie Johnson on Sunday he will be turned every which way and loose. No Game is a gimme for the Patriots if Devin McCourty is Strating at CB. His supporters will come to their senses soon enough and I am not one of them.

Yeah, that's my mistake. It did seem that Flacco was throwing it to McCourty's side on those last two drives.
