Pats Bring Back LB Niko Koutouvides

The problem with the fourth LB on ST is that he ends up as the third LB at some point in the season and has to start.

From my view during the preseason, Bobby Carpenter performed far better on defense than Koutovides, Tarp, or Rivera. It's very hard to comment on special teams play from watching preseason football on television. None of these guys is a Larry Izzo ST leader, however. And Carpenter has been noted as a good ST player across his career.

The more significant difference in play on defense usually outweighs the less significant difference in ST play.

I completely agree. White & Kootie are OK STers, but are lousy LBs.
Guyton & Carpenter are likely just as good STers, but are much better LBs.
I would feel a whole helluva lot better seeing Guyton/Carpenter on defense than our current 2.

I thought Nico Koutouvides hurt himself in the last pre-season game. Possibly BB used the interim to evaluate Rivera and now Koutouvides is healthy again, he is back on the roster.

this is purely a st signing though...probably directly related to the disasters in week 2. (as an aside...why is ebner on the protection team anyways? doesnt seem like his forte...guy is an open space, nose for the ball type player)
