Patriots signed RB Lex Hilliard and waived C Matt Tennant.
Hilliard has been primarily a special teamer throughout his three-year career with the Dolphins. His addition could be a sign that Shane Vereen (foot) is in danger of missing the season opener.

He's not a vested veteran, that's 4 credited years, he only has 3 (spent a year on the Miami PS as a rookie in 2008). Bill didn't just fall off some turnip truck.

Not me. I want my HC/GM tinkering with the roster right up to the last minute.....and beyond. Its his job to make sure the roster is as good as he can make it. Since players are constantly coming available, he is constantly working the waiver and FA wires to see if he can tweak the roster.

Also its good to remember that Bill is working with a 65 man roster in his mind,. and he's also thinking both short and long term.
