Cutdown Day: PATS DISCUSSION thread

Like one of my binkies last year, James Sanders?

Yeah it was terrible the way he didn't know who would get injured when he made that move the season was a total disaster as a result.

Cuts aren't due until 9, so I'm sure there are more than a few players at that practice who won't be on the roster tomorrow morning.

Yeah, but there is a reason why some are at the practice and some are not.

1) If a player is PS eligible, and the team wants to sign him in the PS, then holding out the information about him being cut gives other teams less time to scout him and therefore reduces the chance of him being claimed.

2) If a player is not PS eligible, then only reason I can think of why he would be still practicing, is that his fate is still open. I find it hard to believe that there are many players that fall into this category.

I suspect that out of professional courtesy we wont hold back cuts on those guys who will have to find a new employer. Most teams seem to follow this protocol and release all the non-PS-eligible players in the morning therefore giving other teams more time to have a look at them and contemplate a claim. If we are not interested in keeping them, why tamper with their chances of landing a job elsewhere?

Thanks for playing a huge part in costing us the Giants regular season game, Mr. Brown! If not for your pass interference near the goal line, they probably don't even make the playoffs. Thanks again for all the memories! :bye2:

Does this fit the thread that requested no one rejoice at a player being cut, that you said never happens?

With the game on the line, James Sanders intercepts Peyton Manning!

"Play like a champion!"

With the game on the line, Sergio Brown runs over a wide receiver and draws a pass interference penalty!

"Play like a blithering idiot!"

Who rejoiced? I'm just recalling exactly what happened. It sucks for him that he got cut but he'll find another job elsewhere.

Shame Sergio never became anything I remember people were so high on that kid after that clutch tackle on Antonio Gates in '10.

You are joking right? Why say it if you won't stand behind it?
Your post is nothing close to simply recalling what happened

Belichick cut Sanders and Meriweather and kept his chosen safeties: Barrett and Brown (with Ihedigbo as the emergency ST backup safety.

The issue is/was NOT about injuries. It is/was about starters and backups. Belichick chose to count on Barrett and Brown as starter and backup. Belichick chose not to wait until a week before the season started to make those cuts.

Yes, we had a fine season, and would have won theSuper Bowl with more health (and/or more production on the offense.

However, there is really little excuse for believing that Sergio Brown is a better safety than James Sanders. And yes, Sanders is a fine special teamer, as is Brown.

He was my binkie back then

Anyone else seeing a youth movement on both sides of the ball?
I think Belichick is actually planning for the future. And by doing that I don't mean stockpiling draft picks so that we have ten first rounders 5 years from now. He obviously sees talent in the younger players on our roster, otherwise he wouldn't have cut ties with so many of our vets.

Let's go to the quote. Quote time for Andy:

Thanks for playing a huge part in costing us the Giants regular season game, Mr. Brown!

Happened. Brown's PI call in which he literally ran over the receiver before the ball even got there but the Giants at first and goal with a fresh set of downs.

If not for your pass interference near the goal line, they probably don't even make the playoffs.

Again, the pass interference happened because he didn't turn around and look for the ball. If not for that, our chances of stopping that final drive go up and there's a big chance the Giants go 8-8 and miss the playoffs. Instead he trucked the receiver and set the Giants up for the game winner.

Thanks again for all the memories!

Sarcasm stemming from his tweet. Not rejoicing. For me to rejoice, it would go something like this: "Sweet! I'm glad that bum is gone. He sucked and our secondary is all the better for it". I didn't say that. Further...

rejoice[ ri-jois ]
verb (used without object)
1.*to be glad; take delight (often followed by in): to rejoice in another's happiness.

Where in my post did I ultimately take delight in his being cut? A better description for my post would have been this: an ultra dry, sarcastic recollection of what I remember him most for.

I can't see anyway that Holley or Taylor make the 53 man roster.

I could see Holley sticking around. He's a top-notch gunner who's shown some potential utility at WR.

I'm telling you now that you are in the money if you draft/drafted Welker or Lloyd in your fantasy. With no locked No.3 can you imagine the receptions/yds/td's they're gonna get! Same goes with Gronk/Aaron in fantasy.

We already have some top-notch gunners on our roster *see Slater, Matthew
but I'll give you that second point. He DOES have potential utility at WR... If he doesn't quit halfway through the route.

The Branch/Hoyer release was the top news item on ESPN's NFL website last time I checked. So, at that time, the most newsworthy, surprising releases.

He wasn't at practice. He is a projected cut.

Thank goodness Sergio Brown is gone! :bricks:
