Who would of thought the 1991 4th rounder, career backup, cartoonist, locker room joke artist would take over Gino's job. I think it's a great hire. Just a down to earth guy that seems to take what life gives him. I've heard he has a great personality and was really well liked by his teammates.
Good for him and congrats.

I'm on board with that. Congrats Zo.

Great choice. Look forward to his insights.

Way to go, Zo!
My concern is nobody good for consideration as Gil's replacement.

I think a play-by-play guy could come from anywhere in the country, it's a very transferrable skill. There may be somebody working play-by-play for a smaller-market team or a major college team who could step in perfectly.

For color, though, a guy like Zolak who is enthusiastically steeped in the Patriots and connected with the local fans is perfect. Congratulations, Zo, and may you have a long and pitch-perfect run as voice of the Patriots.

Congrats to Zo. A qb who has the ability to read a defense and know what is happening in front of him as the play unfolds makes him a good candidate.

I agree that the Patriots could, and would be well served, to take a pbp guy from outside of the market. However, in listening to a lot of out of town broadcasts via NFL Mobile and Sirius makes me hope they don't go for an over the top, rah-rah, hooting in the press box, carrying the water for the organization type. Someone with a good "football voice" (not like Meterparrell) and who understands the basics of the play without trying to over analyze (that is why Zo is there). A guy who will get excited about the big play but won't make every 3 yard run sound like Marshawn Lynch's run vs the Saints in the playoffs two years ago. Those criteria leave slim pickings.

Zo is a good choice and I'm happy for him.

tedy bruschi would have been a better choice.. but i guess zo is all they have

Uh oh, who's gonna cut Bob Kraft's lawn now??

Zo is proof positive that one does not need a brain to work in the media.

Since this year expected to be Gil's last year, can anyone think of any candidates for his replacement?? Anyone think we could steal Gus Johnson from FOX??

I for one, would think Dale Arnold would do a hell of a job. Flame away!

I'm sure that there is more than enough local talent within New England who are qualified
- and who would kill for the chance - to broadcast the games of the team they grew up following.
There should be no reason to look toward SoCal, brah - or hayfields in Indiana - or Sewer York
(isn't one Damon Amendolara enough?) - when there is very likely already the next Ken Coleman,
Bob Wilson, Fred Cusick, or Gil Santos, somewhere in our midst.

I want the next Voice of the NEP to be a fan of the NEP, not of Me Myself & I, or of the Big Network Gig.

Guess I am in the minority here, but do not care for Zolak.. find him to act too young on his radio gig..

Would have preferred Troy Brown, who comes across the radio as smooth and knowledgeable..

Zolak on a talk show is doing a totally different gig. Those guys are there to provoke and attract an audience of callers.

This job will be to describe for listeners what is happening on the field. Gil is the best radio play-by-play man out there, so Zo's job will be to add insight with a touch of attitude to Gil's call.

Two ex-QBs who I think do a nice job are Phil Simms on TV and Boomer Esiason on radio. Zo should be listening to tapes of those guys.

Good luck, Zo. I'll have the TV on mute and action synched to the radio call.

Zolak does a good job on the Patriots radio telecasts....being a former player and under the age of 80, he is a fresh voice.

I hope they dont hire MidgetMullett aka Gary Tanguay to replace Gil when he retires....Mr Goofy Glasses should never be part of actual Patriots game telecasts....

"HE HOOKED IT!!!!!"

Now he'll be encouraged to yell over Gil.

No matter what you say, do not care for Zo... his talk show personna may be different than his color commentary, but cannot separate the two personality. Did not care for him as a player, do not care for him on the radio all that much.

IMO Troy would have been lightyears better than him..

He lost me about 2 months ago when he was talking about he and Todd Rucci used to drive a cadillac that they chopped the roof off of, back and forth to the "Tard School"(Wrentham State).. that sealed the deal for me. He is just another bombastic, ignorant ratings whore.
