yeah but they might know him from attending games cause they both went to osu too so they are around the program. plus bills daughter is at osu or mikes so they might have known jake from being scholar atheletes. :rocker::rocker:

Do you really think Bill Belichick acquires players because someone he knows was close to the same place once?

Meyer attended the University of Cincinnati and Belichick's daughter has only been coaching lacrosse at OSU since August 2010, 4 months after Ballard's draft class. Vrabel's kids are in grammar school. More research less ink, troll.

wow i didnt know that youre like a walkjing encycopedia!! thank you :singing::singing::rocker:

He picked him up off waivers for the contract value of a second round pick.
What? He was picked up off waivers as one of 90 players on the roster.
Are you telling me that every player picked up on waivers is worth a second round pick?

BB paid him, I didn't. Take it up with him

I agree with BB paying him, I disagree with you pretending that means he is now as good as whatever you want to say he is.

???? Project much?

Your argument is that he is worth what you say he is worth, simply because BB plucked him off waivers. BB taking says nothing about his value other than he feels he is worthy of one of 90 roster spots.

You talk in circles son.

Not at all.
I agree with the move.
I disagree with the poster who says the player is worth a high second rounder.
I vehemently disagree with you saying BB taking him off waivers is proof he is worth a high second rounder, because that statement is entirely ignorant of the facts.

He doesn't think, Andy. He's a troll. :bricks:

I think your trolldar is malfunctioning.

Actually, I thinkhe is just a kid.

I joined here to post my opinions on a team that I have been following since they were first formed. You know, Nickerson Field days, Fenway Park, Sheaffer Stadium with the Sullivans.

I probably have socks older than you.

NO, just the ones who have ALREADY shown that they put can up numbers that would justify a 2nd round designation. 604 receiving yards, Over 13 yards per catch 4 TD's, AND being known as a better than average blocking TE

Not to beat a dead horse, but Jeff Howe writes that the anger from the Giants' organization is pointed within, for exosing Ballard to a waiver claim. He also writes that "some around the league believe the Patriots did a nice job of cashing in on the Giants’ careless mistake".

Jake Ballard cut a Giant mistake - BostonHerald.com

Point blank, plenty of people in the NFL know the Giants made a big mistake waiving Ballard.

While the Patriots were the only team to place a claim on Ballard, word around the league is other teams considered it before backing off. As for the debate about the unwritten rule, some people have an old-school philosophy against claiming an injured player, but it isn’t widely accepted by any stretch of the imagination. It’s been said there’s no rule, just an antiquated way of thinking.

To subscribe to such a theory is borderline arrogance, and some in the NFL were surprised the Pats were the only team that tried to get Ballard. It was considered a smart, bold move.

It's more like a third-rounder, and that only if you're talking 2012 cap hits (Bequette's is ~$530K).

Tavon Wilson got $1.5M as a signing bonus.

That was the impression I got from Tom Coughlin. There was nothing in his words or attitude that suggested his ill-concealed frustration was with the Patriots.

People talk about this "unwritten rule" about not claiming injured players off waivers, but why would there even be a rule when NOBODY PLACES INJURED PLAYERS OF SIGNIFICANCE ON WAIVERS TO BEGIN WITH!

When was the last time a team waived a starter in the offseason in hopes of sending him to IR? Can anybody think of a single example? Why the heck would the Giants do that?

39 receptions as a TE in 2 years after being undrafted and well reknowned as slow for the position rarely elevates a player to 2nd round value.
He has absolutlely not already shown he is the value of a high second rounder.

I doubt that, but I don't know what that has to do with the guy posting in large font and bright colors likely being a kid.

1st year as a starter

Rob Gronkowski 42-546 (13.0 avg) 10 TDs
Jake Ballard 38-604 (15.9 avg) 4 TDs - note only 14 games

Now not to compare Ballard to Gronkowski but...

First year
Ballard 0-0-0

Second year

You are right they cannot be compared, unless you are trying to compare apples to rhubarb.

To be fair Ballard didn't start in any games in 2010 and only played in 1. He was playing behind Kevin Boss, Travis Beckum and Bear Pascoe.

That doesn't say a lot in Ballard's defense. I think he can do good things here, but he'll be behind MUCH better competition than anything the Giants' had.

Both apples and rhubarb (when prepared by a competent coach.. er I mean chef) make for a very delicious kind of pie... pies that given nearly every situation are virtually interchangeable with one another.
