I was not surprised to hear the Boston Red Sox flagship, WEEI, spin this on Mutt and Lou. Damage control. I don't care what he did at the party, it's the attendance to begin with, and the complete lack of common sense continually shown by this organization. THE DUDE WAS IN INTENSIVE CARE. Even if he's not "seriously" ill, it's serious enough for him to be in the ICU. Then the Red Sox supposedly gave him permission to attend a party, instead of saying "you know, you just got out of ICU at the hospital, and even though your fine now, let's play it safe and lay low."
Of course, upon hearing Mutt and Lou spin it as no big deal, my initial thought was a team sponsored spin/cover-up. The team was not about to have another beer and chicken thing on their hands, so they simply said they gave him permission. I realize this smacks of Nixonian paranoia, but that's my take on it.
I am really shocked that no one said "wait a second" and thought it though. Again, it smacks of the arrogant, pink hat pandering of the front office, and it permeates all the way down to the players. They can do or say whatever the hell they want, and the fan base will lap it up like hungry little puppies. Charge a premium for lousy seats and call it a deck or a club? You bet. Sweet Caroline while losing in the 8th? No problem. Beer and Chicken? No sweat! Stoli party after being in ICU? Let 'er rip!
Can you see the Krafts allowing this? :nono:
