Is this the year we finally trade up (I know this thread appears every year). Been reading a lot about our interest in Barron. It would cost pick 27 and 48 roughly to move up to #13. How do you guys feel about moving up?

I feel like this defense needs an injection of studs. I'd love a Brockers too.

Not for Mark Barron. Maybe for someone like shea mcclellin (we wouldn't have to trade up as far either).

I'd say no. Barron is a great player but i dont think the pats pull the trigger. As Caserio said, there's a lot of front 7 players and i think theyll want to use their picks on LB,DL, and DE. You have to also consider that they dont have that many picks this year so they need to conserve and/or collect. I want to say that they trade their 27 or 31 for another pick in the 2nd and possibly that teams 1st next year. But if not, then i say why not take Harrison Smith. I like his playing style.I think he can really develop into a ball hawk with enough support, coaching, and playing time. So far him and Devon Still have become my favorite picks for the Pats to make.

Shea would be an awesome pick but he's had quite a few concussions already and that sounds a lot like mike wright. Thats a risky pick and I think he'll slide a bit because of that.

I agree that we don't want to use too much to trade up, but giving up only pick 48 to get to around 13 would open up a lot of possibilities, while letting us keep #31. Honestly I feel DE and OLB are bigger needs than safety right now. I love Smith too but apparently so do a couple other teams.

I'm getting too excited for the draft need to temper my expectations because we're going to take an unknown guard with #27 :bricks::rocker:

The latest reports now say that Barron may very well go inside the top 10.

BUF is reportedly very interested in him at #10.

I could see pretty much any scenario, including moving up and moving out of the first altogether.

Some feel as though this 2012 draft is not loaded with talent, and that would figure into both equations/possibilities.

Chances are that we'll probably stay put and take our chances with more players of mid-tier talent, rather then risk it on one guy.

The next possibility would be the collect more picks for this and next yr, and move down.

Moving up is likely the least of the possibilities in my opinion, but it's so hard to even guess at.

Obviously, however Belichick feels will be the way he goes, so any kind of guessing is nothing but speculative nonsense at this point.

Funny because i was thinking the same thing, Pats will probably take a guard or some injured player. ughh! and yea we would def have to give up more than just pick 48 to get to 13. Harrison smith wont go in the first round i feel. Teams will want to get him at good value so in early 2nd hes gone. That's why i said he'd be good to go for us at 31 and at 27 if we held on to it i would say either nick perry devon still or chandler jones. I dont feel too good about mercilus

I will believe the Patriots are going to trade up more then a spot or two in the first round when I see it. That is simply not how BB generally prefers to fill his roster, love it or hate it.

Nope. The Patriots will trade down...maybe with both first round picks because there is a cluster of players with similar grades between 27 and 37 or so. Why not trade down adn pick up some future picks and still get a player of the same grade. Also there is no way that BB goes into Saturday with no picks after 4...

So Thursday night will be pretty droll for Pats fans...but Friday could be hot; I expect the Patriots to have 3 or 4 fourth round picks by then.

I've changed my mind.

I think that they should trade up this year, b/c there isn't nearly the depth there that other years have.

They may lose a pick, but they need to walk away from this with a couple/few players that can produce immediately.

They could still trade down too with other picks, but I'm all for packaging 27 and 48 and moving up.

Then trade down with 31, and maybe another mid rounder. They could still have 2 firsts next yr too, and pick at 40 (or so) and 62.

Agree with this 100%. I'd be willing to bet anything there is no way we:

1) Use BOTH #1 Picks (though we have plenty of holes to fill)
2) Trade both #1 picks to move up (Belichick very rarely does this, though I'd love to trade up for BC's Luke Kuechly)

#1's willl be traded for #2's and #3's
#2's will be traded for #3's and #4's
#3's will be traded for #4's and #5's
#4's will be traded for #5's and #6's

We have 6 picks, and they will be moved around so we wind up with 8 picks this year and 2 or 3 next. Whether that works out for the Pats remains to be seen. I do believe that one of our #1 picks this year might be from 2005 or 2004, too lazy to check out the trade chain.

What is this....your first time at the rodeo? Only kidding......but that ain't going to happen....

Here's what will happen........The Pats will trade 27th pick to move DOWN to get picks for next year's draft.
The Pats will select some guy none of the so called experts have ever heard of....OR a guy that is predicted to go in the 6th round....but BB takes him at 31. This will lead to all of the analysts/draft gurus scrambling to find some tape on the guy and figure out what the (#%* is going on!!!
Don't expect any flashy moves.....even if Trent Richardson is STILL on the board at 24....or another flashy, explosive offensive weapon is on the board at 27.....BB will NOT be taking him and will be trading the pick and moving down the board......just the way it goes around here!!!

Sarcasm aside, the Pats did not trade forward from 2006 into 2007 (gee, I wonder why).

I've been saying for a while that the Pats might trade up this year, but I think Barron's stock has risen too much for the Pats to trade up for him. He looks like he is going to be a top 10 pick now.

Rumors are the Pats are high on Chandler Jones. He might be around in the low teens or early 20s. He might be a guy they trade up for.

Why would we trade both 1st round picks to move up and draft a guy at a position of relative strength?

Looking a few mocks it seems the players who are worth taking in the first for the Pats will be gone by pick 20. I'd rather either them trade up and get one or trade out totally. Thankfully they won't just take a player because he is highly rated by everyone. He needs to fit what the Pats do first and foremost.

Since only one team can get Barron, It wouldn't be shocking if 27 or 31 were traded to someone wanting the ND kid.

27 and 31 are great picks with this Thursday/Friday format.

Jerrah, you out there?

Seems interesting that a report comes out today that McCourty will be moved to safety.

I have my doubts about Chandler Jones. When did the "Patriots like....." stories start becoming believeable?

Hate to burst anyone's pipe dream but even BB doesn't know what he's going to do until the draft actually plays out and the phones start ringing.

That being said, he's already set precedence by trading picks like water. If there is a team that covets a player and wants to move up they know BB will do it if the price is right.

Unless there is a player that BB really really really wants, he'll trade down.

Let the draft games begin !
