LOL..

No one can ever say that you aren't extremely entertaining at times, DW.

In regards to Jared Allen, I would imagine that the Vikes would be trying like hell to hold onto him, unless someone really came along and knocked their socks off with an offer they couldn't refuse. We probably wouldn't be that team, it's just so much more cost efficient and less of a gamble to take someone in the draft.

In the salary cap era it's difficult to try and make a team filled with superstars, actually there's been more than one famous NEP quotes to come from this thought.

We've got Brady, Welker, Mankins, Wilfork, Mayo, etc all as guys who are getting PAID in every sense of the term. Even worse we've got guys like Chung, Spikes, McCourty, Gronkowski, Hernandez etc who are right around the corner too. Just attempting to keep most of our own will be a challenge, let alone give up multiple high draft picks (so precious in the rookie cap era now), and 15+ million a year.

Sup,
I think I am being realistic. You lose Cater with 10 sacks and Anderson with 10 sacks and pick up a 30 year old high profile performer with perhaps four good years left (how old was Carter when he arrived here?), and the key word is performer, who had 22 sacks by himself in 2011. He would add charisma to the package and a desire for a ring he is never going to get while the Vikes are rebuilding with youth. They cut three top vets to create CAP space and the fan base would go ballistic if they let him go without something in return.

I have mentioned the perfect storm. You have two first round picks and we know BB will waste one because his down trades have not been an advantage and that is well documented. A lot of wasted energy for comparable results that other Teams drafts have accomplished. I am surprised he wastes this time on this "value" myth as smart as he is. I have an idea it's just fun for him.

You can create CAP room because of the 22 new FAs and resigns in 2012 of which maybe half will survive the final cut. If Light goes (and why should he) there is some more. That CAP stuff does not concern me. The smart play is extend Welker and offer Allen an extension as well if he resigns. People say why should he take less? For a couple three added years it should make sense to him as well.

That being said, why would the Vikes trade him? Well as I have said, CAP is tight and a goal of getting younger is obvious. The are desperate for a WR and in fact are leaning Blackmon now but could use Kalil at LT even more so. Can't do both.....but! The Steelers are in a box with Wallace, the best young deep WR in the game. Is Blackmon better at this stage? Hell no, nor is he a true deep threat. If Wallace was on the board with his NFL body of work in this NFL 2012 Draft, he is better than any WR. He is also NFL experienced and young.

We spend #31 for Allen and the Vikes throw #31 at the Steelers for Wallace. The Vikes have gained CAP by moving Allen so they can afford Wallace. The Steelers can't fight the RFA trade because of their CAP dollars. The Vikes now Draft LT Kalil and they have accomplished two things.

Would that Pats make CAP room to sign him is everybodys' point here in this forum. Would you if you were BB?

I wouldn't cry if they got Forte but Allen is a no brainer when you consider all of the circumstances for all three Teams. Sometimes NFL Front Offices out think themselves. You don't have to be Parcells to figure this is an easy play to get. But it has happened here and in every F.O.

I agree with others, why isn't this thread closed by now?

My God can we get a sticky for this?

YOU CAN NOT TRADE FOR ANOTHER TEAM'S PICK AND USE IT ON A RESTRICTED FA UNLESS IT IS AT LEAST AS HIGH AS YOUR OWN.

Once we head down the path of censoring pointless threads, where will we be?
Eventually, threads that differ from the general consensus will be locked, or worse expunged, and patsfans will become akin to a modern day Pravda.

Oh, and if you didn't get it, I was being slightly facetious...

Since it seems not possible to get off topic in this thread, thought I'd throw out this but from Peter King's MMQB column today:

5. Jeff Fisher loves Trent Richardson, and the impact of the Rams ending up with the Alabama running back would be huge. First, the Rams would presumably either trade or release Steve Jackson if this happens. I don't see them paying Jackson $7 million in 2012 to share the job with a player certain to eclipse him soon. And that big number takes some logical teams (Steelers, Giants) out of the running for Jackson. Now, I view this scenario as unlikely anyway, because the Rams simply have to get receiver help for Sam Bradford. But if Justin Blackmon is gone here and Richardson's still there, he's logical for the Rams. Of course, Cleveland likes Richardson a lot, and rookie Tampa coach Greg Schiano does too, so I don't see Richardson making it to six.

Steven Jackson anyone? Speculate, slam, have fun.

I doubt it would happen but I would make any reasonable deal for him. I really think we will see the run game getting more use because of the change in offensive philosophy that comes with predominantly 2 TE sets. Belichick is going to take advantage of the smaller defenses that have become more prevalent to deal with spread offenses, and he's going to pound away when teams try to use nickel and dime defensive sets against their 2 TE sets. I expect them to add a good back either in the draft or trade and see them running much more than they have for the remainder of Brady's career. Brady will still put up really good numbers but they will have more balance and be more physical than they have been the past few seasons.

As The Scrizz correctly noted, the Vikings can't do that: you can't use a pick lower than your original pick as offer sheet compensation. So the Vikings would have to give up their top-10 pick for Wallace.

Every time I see this thread bolded because it has another new post, I kill a kitten. I'm building up quite a mound of them, and at this rate, its eventually going to be one of you thread bumper's kittens.

Since I loathe cats, bump.

I dismissed this rumor at first and for good reason. That specific rumor is likely false but with the reported hold out it gives the Bears less trade leverage, if we can pick him up with a second round pick then I am all for it. He had more receptions last year than Branch and in less games too. Decent money for him on a 3 year deal plus what he thinks a Super Bowl ring is worth to him could swing things in our favor. Still unlikely to happen, just a little less unlikely. I think he could get 40+ receptions for 400+ yards and 800-1000 rushing yards.

Everybody is really mad at you right now. Let it die.
