Bears free-agent defensive tackle Amobi Okoye is receiving interest from five teams per Adam Caplan of TheSidelineview.com.

In addition to the Bengals and Bears, Okoye has received interest from the Bucs, Pats, and Broncos, according to sources

Your track record will either be 99% better or 1% worse than Incarcerated Bob once this is resolved

Interesting prospect... obviously smart.

He's probably not long enough, not heavy enough, or doesn't know the 3-4. If he is then he'll want too much money. :bricks:

I could go for Christian Okoye The Nigerian Nightmare

Actually wouldnt mind Amobi either he is a good interior rusher

Doesn't exactly matter at this point. The Patriots aren't a straight-up 3-4 team anymore. Sure, you'll still see Wilfork two-gap at NT; so we aren't necessarily a classic 4-3 either. But we made use of both one-gap players (Carter, Anderson) and two-gap players (Wilfork) players last year. Seems like we'll be doing the same this year....mixing it up.

So, we could still use a DT that can shoot the gap, instead of occupying it. Especially if Fanene is being rotated on the line and placed at DE. Or if you just want to rest Wilfork on passing downs. Akoye would be a good guy to rotate in.

Right now this team is still short on the defensive line, imo.

I think BB had Wilfork, Love and the back side end two gapping while sending sending Carter/Anderson off the edge and relying on the other three LBers to play as if in a 4-3.

This defense was fairly effective, until the opposing team abandoned the run and just started throwing it, our lack of a pass rush and weak secondary/safties was then exposed.

I wonder if BB could use a guy like me...

I can't shoot the gap, but i can shoot the breeze

Last year we would often split the D so that it it was half-4/3 and half-3/4. Of course, often doesn't mean every down, cause we'd mix it up quite a bit with different guys playing different gaps/techniques.

Here's a good read by Chris Brown; the guy that runs the "Smart Football" blog, and easily knows more than any of us...

Does he have sand in the pants, are his eyes active or his arms too short, maybe his forty is off as is his shuttle or cone drill? The guy has been playing in the NFL for a good number of years, either he can play or he can't, and these neverending draftnik phrases are completely irrelevant.

Nothing personal but the nonstop use of draft speak has really turned what used to be football discussions into a littany of useless draftnik phrases.

Vince Wilfork NT NE: Wilfork has the sand in the pants teams look for at NT. Good motor and good intangibles. Eyes aren't active enough and lateral agility questionable per his cone drills. Slow forty and short arms, small hands. He lets his pads rise and doesn't anticipate blocking pressure readily enough. inconsistent get off and stamina level is questionable at 360 lbs.

Blah blah, blah blah, blah blah blah blah. Much as I love the draft this is what player analysis has been reduced to, a bunch of catch phrases that are applied liberally and inaccurately, especially to pro players who have either shown they can play or not, and whose forty times and cone drills need never be rehashed again.

Has Okoye been a productive player or not? What are his strengths and weaknesses in football terms, not draft jargon? How much will he cost and how much is he likely to play here, that's what matters, not his average eyes and small hands.

The more all the draftniks try to sound like experts the dumber they sound. I love the draft and have followed it for years but unfortunately all i can find for "analysis" now is the same trite phrases being used over and over again in ways that are essentially meaningless.

Rant over, for now, or at least until someone tries to invoke Welker's 40 time to argue against paying him.

I think it was a joke. Nice rant though.

The name reminded me of Christian Okoye,'The Nigerian Nightmare'

Now THAT was about as bruising of a fullback as you will ever see.

I've always liked this kid. If he doesn't require too much $ I would love to see him on the Pats. I think he and Wilfork would dominate.

I for one would be very happy if this 3-4 and 4-3 talk would go away.

We are either a 6-5 team or a 5-6 team in my eyes ... we will have so many sub packages the announcers will not know what they are looking at anymore. Either 6 big guys in front of 5 smaller guys or 5 big guys in front of 6 smaller guys.

Hopefully they'll be playing a lot of "11-0" defense this year - 11 defensive players and 0 offensive players on the field. They experimented with 10-1 defense last year with Edelman.
