I disagree. I think that Carter will have more options in June. Many teams may be interested in a healthy Andre Carter. IMHO, the best "bargain" for the patriots can be had now.

But they can't really sign him until they know whether he will heal.
This was a devastating injury. It could be career ending.

I don't think he tore his ACL...

No, he ripped his quadraceps right off.
He has to have surgery to reattach the largest muscle in his leg.
It is probably worse than an ACL.

If Andre is healthy enough to play, and that's a big IF. He will give the Pats the first chance to sign him. He's a as straight up as any player you'll see. I'd like to have 6 of our fatties. And, have him as the 7th DL. Bring him in on nickel. Which is usually 2nd down in the 4-2-5 as the RDE.

Love the way this guy plays but we shouldnt be placing ANY reliance on a ped using 33 yr old guy coming off this type of injury.

I disagree.

The question what the patriots are willing to pay to lock him up. For example, he could have a contract with a $300K bonus and $500K injury clause if he never sees the field.
The cost of this option could be made to be acceptable.

Perhaps both sides have a handshake agreement that the patriots would be able to match a deal, if someone else offers one.

But you must have 2 sides to make a deal.
If the Patriots try to sign him taking a chance on whether he can play at all, they will offer substantially less than if he were fully healthy. If Carter believes he would be fully healthy, why would he sign now?

Can you clarify your proposal? Are you saying they give him a 300k bonus to sign while hurt and agree to pay him 500k if he can't play?

Of course the cheapest thing for the Patriots would be to sign him to a damaged goods contract, but why would Carter be interested in that? I don't get the feeling his major concern is how much he can get someone to pay him to not play.
