NFL suspends Payton, Loomis & Williams; strips Saints of two draft picks

Agree -- tough situation.
If you decide to keep Payton, you'll get scrub asst coaches for the year, and likely a scrub head coach.

I don't see a Tuna or Dungy coming back for one year in a crappy situation -- there's zero upside to it other than money.

Maybe someone who has long retired with ties to the Saints org -- someone who would be willing to take the crappy no upside situation for the good of the org.
IE if this happenned to the Pats in 15 years, I could see Bill saying 'F it I'll coach for a year for the fun of it and cause the franchise I care about needs someone'.

I think they're better off just scrapping the entire coaching staff, and trying to start fresh -- they wouldn't be throwing away this season and if they can get a good coach in here, there might not be any downside.

Saints just announced they are hiring ML Carr to be the new coach! And interim GM!

re: Warren Sapp says Jeremy Shockey was the Saints bounty Snitch

He was the snitch?
One could also say he was the one who confessed. Or the first one to be truthful.

Interesting to see how he is treated by fellow players.

Makes you wonder who was involved

re: Warren Sapp says Jeremy Shockey was the Saints bounty Snitch

Oh, snitch.

I read it quickly and thought it said "marginally-talented, over-hyped, flash in the pan, trailer park trash POS."

I'll look closer next time.

re: Warren Sapp says Jeremy Shockey was the Saints bounty Snitch

Investigation started when they caught someone saying "Wheres my money?" on camera after knocking Favre out of the NFCCG in 2009. Not in 2011.

As much as we all dislike Shockey, this just seems like wanting to tarnish his name, nothing legit.

sorry ddin't read all 16 pages when i got on here...

whoever was the source for this investigation, i hope they enter the witness protection program, he has made a lot of enemies.

very brutal penalties, much harsher than anyone expected. wow.

Protected by the Whistleblower Act. Not to mention that I am certain that Goodell let the NFLPA know and said there would be repercussions of Shockey was intentionally taken out..

re: Warren Sapp says Jeremy Shockey was the Saints bounty Snitch

FWIW Freeman at CBS tweeted it wasn't Shockey

I really wonder who it is, I remember Schefter said the NFL basically gave up on this investigation and it wasn't until the source came forward with new info that they were able to reopen it.

Some thoughts on Goodell's bounty discipline - Extra Points - Boston.com

There it is again.....people around the league shocked at first but quickly snickering about it because of the way the Saints act like such arrogant tools. Interesting. I've read plenty of comments by people who are going on about how classy Payton and co. are but that is clearly not shared by the people who actually get to deal with them.

I'm sure that to others Beichick is such a charmer to deal with

Mediocraties and wanna bes always hate the top dog

Sappy and his oversized mouth just opened himself up to a huge lawsuit.
No team signs Shockey then Warren's going to be picking up J's lifestyle tab for a $izeable $sum.
What Sapp just did was basically put a bounty/blacklist target on Shockey's head.
If Sappy can't back up his claim after Shockey hauls him into court he has a huge problem.

Is Brees still pissed at the Saints?

Could be a long season for them!

Goodell has announced severe repercussions for any player doing a payback bounty on "snitches"

re: Warren Sapp says Jeremy Shockey was the Saints bounty Snitch

Looks like Sapp just wants to create internet inches!

Tool!

It will be interesting to see if guys like Sharper retract their previous statements about the bounty system.

It would have been truthful or a confession if he had done it while still on the Saints. The fact that the spilled the beans after he left is just sour grapes. Any more food references? I could go all day

It will be interesting to see if people adjust their attitudes toward Spygate given the punishments dished out in direct comparison with Bountygate.

The case was re-opened prior to the start of the 2011/2012 season. And Shockey letting the league know could have been why it was re-opened.

re: Warren Sapp says Jeremy Shockey was the Saints bounty Snitch

I hope that SAPP gets fired from the NFLN over this. Friggin loud-mouthed scumbag.

re: Warren Sapp says Jeremy Shockey was the Saints bounty Snitch

"Snitches get stitches".

re: Warren Sapp says Jeremy Shockey was the Saints bounty Snitch

Goodell isn't gonna be happy with NFL Network. The player comes to the NFL in confidence and now the NFL's own network has outed the player. Some heads are gonna role.

Also, PFT is reporting that Sapp is wrong and Shockey is not the snitch. Sapp could be fired or sued over this. If Shockey does not get a contract this year he may be bringing Sapp to court.
