I think the only thing Clark has a problem with Bountygate was that Saints players got paid for intentially hurting other players when he does it for free.

Most of us have access to NFLN...in tonight's ongoing segment with Brian Baldinger and newcomer Ryan Clark, Baldinger asks him what is more serious, paying bounties to injure players or Spygate...immediately Clark launches into his Spygate rant ,including "they changed the outcomes of games in progress like the playoffs and Super Bowls and cheated the league for years, fixing games by spying so I say Spygate is much worse"(somewhat paraphrased from memory but accurate in his intent)...this segment JUST aired and is STILL replaying.

For all the holier than thou know it alls that constantly mock anyone here who continues to fight against this Spygate injustice, here's a gigantic newsflash...this story is NEVER going away until the Ryan Clarks and NFLN hit squads and their slander pieces are brought to bear and debunked...forcefully and vehemently. It's the eve of of the 2012 free agency period and Ryan Clark just slandered all Patriot players, coaches and fans on national television...and we as a fanbase "need to get over it" and "move on"?

It is perpetuated by willful ignorance and spite. Those who go that route show all you need to know about their sense of integrity.

Laws and rules define the boundaries of what is legal. If you draw a box on a piece of paper, everything inside the box is legal, all else is illegal or undefined. However, when you stand near the edge of the box, as BB did, in what to him was a clearly stated rule, you become susceptible to the opinion of others on the intent of the rule. So, you can stand in your box and still be blamed.

The problem here was Kraft, he paid BB's fine and decided that "in the best interests of Football" (but not the Patriots) that we should turn the other cheek. We should've fought, Kraft went wobbly on this one. We were within the box of the rules. Good enough to fight a Commissar who had exceeded his authority.

You 'forgot' this part of Reiss quote":

In the league's Constitution & Bylaws, it reads: "Any use by any club at any time, from the start to the finish of any game in which such club is a participant, of any communications or information-gathering equipment, other than Polaroid-type cameras or field telephones, shall be prohibited, including without limitation videotape machines, telephone tapping, or bugging devices, or any other form of electronic devices that might aid a team during the playing of a game."


The taping was for future use and not to aid in the game in which it was taped. Close to the edge of the box but certainly within it.

It can be done from the stands with a covered camera IIRC. And I gotta believe BB continued to do it because the Jets went unpunished when the Pats reported them.

Of course, you highlighted the time frame, but ignored the location issue, which is the point being made. It's ok to tape during the game, if it's done from an appropriate, 'legal' location.

Having noted that, I'll ask a simple question:


Why the hell does anyone give a rat's ass what Ryan Clark has to say on the issue? There's nothing that can be said that's going to change the minds of people. This has already become historically embedded into the minds of the vast majority of NFL fans in the country, and that's not going to change. If Clark wants to demonstrate that he's clueless about the rules of the sport he plays for a living, let him.

The memo sent in 2006 is an amendment to the league's Constitution and Bylaws. We got in trouble for it after the memo was sent. We did it legally in prior years, but after the memo was sent, the decision should have been made to stop the video practices.

The memo was sent to warn coaches of the amendment made to the league's constitution and bylaws. Again, what don't you not understand about the memo? It's pretty clear to me.

It's not obvious? The rule is about location. Which makes the rule totally irrelevant since you're allowed to steal signals from other locations.

After that memo sent out in 2006 (which contradicted the rulebook, by the way), the Jets were filming the Patriots from an illegal location. The NFL didn't care.

Regarding the previous 'when' vs 'where' argument: maybe I'm over simplifying, but it has to be okay to film during (i.e., 'when') a game. If not, then how would any team have any film to go back and study, whether it be of their own performance or that of an upcoming opponent?

Upstater, I respect your opinion and I don't really want to rehash this whole thing any further. My opinion on the matter is that Belichick should have stopped video taping defensive signals after the memo, which was pretty clear, was sent. To me, it was a poor decision by an otherwise brilliant head coach.


Bottom line is, there are plenty of idiots like Ryan Clark out there, and even more fans that like to use Spygate to discredit our SB victories. You can't fight them all. Just brush it off and keep it moving.
