Globe hit job on BB

Here's what I wrote to McGrory this morning:

Brian,

Isn't it time for the FCC to step in and look at the Boston Globe and the business reasons why your organization is either a) cheap-shotting the Patriots or b)ignoring them?

It's no secret the 17% interest the NY Times has in the Red Sox. Matsuzaka's arrival airflight and motorcade was covered by your newspaper and website like the O.J. car chase.

Meanwhile, the Borges-Shaughnessy persecution of the Patriots, the MacMullen (who is a great writer, by the way) piece the morning of the playoff game on Asante Samuel which used 4 week old comments on his contract and now your cheap shot about something for which Belichick already apologized and Jim Davis already accepted is beyond the pale.

It IS a case for the FCC.

Good one! We fans aren't the only ones wondering about an agenda,as evidenced by the article questioning the timing of the Asante article and even Lobel calling them out for it.
All that closely followed by McGrory's spew is a bit much and smacks of a total lack of journalistic integrity.
Mike Reiss deserves a raise!

Oh boo hoo hoo. He got in the way and then got pushed out of the way. What the Hell happened to "being a MAN"? Sometimes you get pushed and sometimes you push, now all I ever hear wherever I go is whinny, girly, pansy assed so called men complaining about any little thing that happens to them like they were old women. Grow up, life ain't fair and it sure ain't easy, every once and a while you're going to get cut, bumped, and bruised, you'll heal and you'll live, get over it, and BE A MAN for gods sake.

I was thinking something along these lines myself (maybe worded a little different ) but havent we created a culture where pushy photographers and reporters thrive while everyone else has no way to combat what is going on? If reporters catch you in a public area and want to photograph/interview/harrass you what can you do about it? You can ignore them but you cannot stop them from bothering you.

I do not think Belichick did anything bad AND I bet he has forced someone to fix this problem. At the games this weekend reporters will be out of the way

This story has got more legs then it deserves, I wonder if a cameraman actualy gets in BB way on purpose, hopeing he does get pushed in order to perpetuate this non story. Maybe the Pats should hire BB a body guard to clear a path for him when he is out and about.

a total lack of journalistic integrity.

You just described the new masthead of the NYCrimes/Glob/DeadSux.

While I was in Marshfield for Christmas and New Year's weekends, I bought both Sunday Globs. I kept the Sports and Comics, and threw away the rest.

"Absence of Malice": not present in the Glob's editorial ethos.

Deadspin.com is one of my favorite wiseacre sites and even the Deadspin readers, who are generally merciless in their comments have sided with BB on this one.

The Globe messageboards have over 50 pages of comments and this board has 13. The overwhelming majority against McGrory.

Here's my favorite line of the article...

Davis, camera to his eye, got caught in the media scrum...

How *arsenine* is that? Oh, so their photographer was somehow above the rest of the scum? So it would have been OK for BB to smack one of the rest of the scum (I mean scrum), but not the Globe reporter who only got caught up in the scum?

Kinda makes me think of Christmas where everyone wants to get their gift-opening-pose pictures, to the extent that this has become a Christmas event in itself. I've gotten in the habit of taking photos of everyone lined up taking those pictures. So this is basically the Globe trying to claim "but hey, our guy Davis is *not* just another one of those picture takers that aqre re-shaping the event being covered"...

Reporters on the field should be treated like quarterbacks: unless they slide down, they are akin to running backs and can be drilled.

I'm dyin'. Best reply in the whole post. Alternatively, they could be treated like referees and trombone players. If they get in the way, they're considered part of the field.
