How about Mangini?

Bill also reportedly told Eric two thiings. You're not ready (at which Eric's ego scoffed, some say he believed Bill was actually ascared of him proving he was an equal if not superior coaching genius) and you don't go there (again Eric interpreted this as being ascared of competing against him as opposed to it's a career suicide move).

Eric was something of a schematic savant, but he had some warts tied to an inflated self image and an abrasive demeanor when potentially given control or authority. He lacked humility. He's been humbled to an extent, but the latent warts possibly remain dormant just beneath the surface. Won't know 'til he's autopsied... Ergo he is dead to this organization.

Dude, I usually love your posts, but psychoanalyzing someone you have never met? Really?

Manginis defenses were great?

I don't buy the best for the team thing though. Mangini was a product of BB. BB taught him literally everything he knows. You don't need to bring back someone you taught everything they know to improve your team.

Of course, every coach has a mentor, and Mangini had one of the best, but it doesn't mean that Mangini doesn't have something of his own to add. Objectively speaking, our defense were for the most part better when Mangini was on board. I think there are a lot of reasons for that, but it's certainly possible that one of those reasons is Mangini himself.

Why would people want to bring back a coach who, in his last year here, was relieved of his play-calling duties half way through the season???

The rest of your post I agree with (especially the bit about Mangini just trying to play mindgames with BB and having it blown up in his face. Someone gave me a 3rd hand report that this was told to a friend of theirs who I know has regular face time with Kraft.)

But this part I don't agree with. I don't think Belichick would ever begrudge an employee leaving for another team. The thing that probably upsets BB the most that Mangini did was try to get people to come with him on the plane back after the 2006 loss.

IIRC, there were reports he warned Mangini against taking the JEST job.

Are you quoting me on this (I posted something to that effect yesterday), or do you remember this happening as well?

I remember it happening.. It was talked about ALOT on here. It just seems that people have short memories..

This is true. There were reports on it. Just as there were reports that Mangini lost his play-calling abilities during games.

Yeah, he was pulled from playcalling duties in 06. Just because the Pats went back to the well for Josh McD doesn't mean we need to go back to the latrine for Fredo.

as Reiss specifically states, mangini was only a good DB coach, bad DC...if he came back it would only be as a DB coach, NOT as a DC

but i dont want him back, screw mangini

Your comments was "Manginis defenses" were great.
I'm not diminishing Mangini's contribution to the coaching staff, but he isn't bringing new ideas. As I said he learned literally everything he knows from BB. You seem to be searching for coaching that would improve the defense. I don't know how you get that by bringing in a guy who would mimic what is already in place.
The bad blood would seem to overwhelm the ability to absorb and communicate what BB instructs.

Where did Reiss specifically state this? I don't see him even alluding to it.

I would be extremely disappointed if this happened. I think that Bob Kraft would put his foot down on this if it was ever brought up.

The Rat set in motion events that hurt the Patriots brand. Kraft seems to be a forgiving person but I doubt he would be that forgiving. He spent years of hard work building the brand, I can't see him allowing this little nothing of a person anywhere near it ever again.

I agree, more because it would create a circus than that Mangini isn't a good coach. There is also the trust factor. IIRC, BB locked Mangini out of his office when he left, so the events surrounding his leaving, and poaching of coaches, eroded that trust. You don't let someone you can't trust in the inner circle.

Eff that weasley prick. Hope his next coaching gig is in high school

Along those very true lines, Eric's return would only spawn yet another eruption of Spygate (really Camera Placement Gate) media frenzy, again hurting the brand and bringing out all the haters for another schadenfreude lap.

Hell no!! That's like asking if Rex Ryan will not predict his team in the super bowl. NOT gonna happen!

If he was back as a coach and bought back into the system done his roll i'd take hime back. however he has a history of clashing with BB even as a db coach you can find this war room by Michael Holley.
