I flipped on last nights monday night game in the 3rd quarter and my wife and I were sitting there watching. Let me start by saying she is a casual long time (20+ year) Pats fan.
She turns to me and says this " Sorry honey, but I don't think we can handle these teams, they play like animals".

I was shocked she said it, but even more bummed she's probably right. I would love to see our team play with that type of fire and passion. I know we have a few fire starters on O like Brady, Gronk, Welker. Maybe Spikes return will add some nasty to the D. It's awesome to be 11-3, but I'd rather be 8-8 and win a playoff game. Lets hope we will!!

Well that wraps up the "Most Provocative Thread Title of the Day" contest.

You really think Alex Smith will outdo Brady, even with their defense? And Ben and his Steelers were terrible on offense.

We physical, they finesse.

What the hell are you doing watching football with your wife?!?!

There's no doubt that teams like San Fran, Pitt, Baltimore, or the NYJ are more physical than us.

But the Packers & Saints are finesse teams, too. And they've had success.

Unfortunately for us, the AFC has more physical, tough teams than the NFC, so the road for those two finesse teams is easier.

That said, I still think we can win. Just look at the past two games. I thought the opposing defenses played well against the Pats offense - outside of some mistakes - and played tough, yet the Pats just drove right over them. Things did not come easy at any point, guys were (again, couple exceptions excluded) well covered. It was a grind, but the Pats were still prolific offensively.

Bottom line - the Pats need to be able to grind out wins. And I think they can.

I thought the same thing. Those teams tackle with a ferocity that we just don't display. Their DBs explode through a ball carrier or receiver, ours dance the guy out of bounds or wait politely for him to catch the ball and then play two handed tag with them. It's very noticeable.

That's happened to me before -- other teams looked bigger, faster, more intense; I didn't think we could handle them. Then NE went head-to-head, and handled 'em. Don't lose faith.

Is your wife LaDanian Tomlinson? Tomlinson was caught on camera before I think the first Pats game saying the Pats were a finesse team and then the Pats went on to beat the crap out of the Jets physically.

EDIT: Also, Rolando McLain also called the Pats a finesse team the week before the Pats out muscled the Raiders.

This Pats team can play physical football when they want to, but they excel with a more finesse type of game.

i would have agreed with you to some extent before the denver game....

but that game showed me something...we got SPANKED in that 1st Quarter, and after it the whole team seemed to be like "enough of this, its time to play"

and did they...starting in the 2nd Q our defense was making stops and causing turnovers, in addition our offense began to dominate, and when we wanted to jam it down their throats with the running game.....we absolutely did

we are not the type of team with that run first play great D mentality, we are a pass first team, supplement with the run, and our defense sucks, which all sums up to make ppl think we are not tough

but i would put this group of pats right now up against any team in this league, and feel confident....

if these tough teams are lions, tough, scary, powerful, kings of their domains

we are the lion tamers, the disciplined, willing and able group willing to get in the same cage, and show the lion who is truly the boss

This guy noticed it, too.

"Casual" and "clueless" see things exactly alike.

Go figure.

Rob I hear you, and nobody enjoyed watching that 45-3 complete beatdown more than I. My concern is he proved to right (which sucked) in the game that mattered and that lose still sucks to this day.

I'm talking this year, not last year. Tomlinson was wrong and he looked like an idiot because the Pats won the first Jets/Pats game playing smashmouth football in the fourth by Grounding and Pounding the ball down the Jets' throat.

The Pats didn't lose to the Jets in the playoffs because they weren't physical enough. They lost because they made costly mistakes at the beginning of the game where the Pats had the Jets on their heels (Brady's stupid INT right to Harris with no receiver close to him, Alge Crumpler's dropped TD pass in the end zone, and Pat Chung audibling for a fake punt) together with the Jets coming in with a completely different gameplan that was out of character for them and the Pats not being able to adjust. I really don't think it had anything to do with not being physical enough at all.

What your wife is referring to is physical play at the safety position. Both the Steelers and the 49ers have physical safeties that punish ballcarriers.

The Pats have not had that type of safety play since... you know the answer.

I thought the Denver Broncos were a very physical team.

Pats handled them.

Rule #1. Your wife is always right.
Rule #2. Even when your wife is wrong, she's right.
Rule #3. Wives are not allowed to talk during football games.

To say that you must be clueless like me. At least according to PatsDouche in Pittsburgh.

Wait, how long have you been married? It can't be long, or you would already know the answer to the question of whether your wife is right or not.

Ha ha, can't argue with the obvious so you go to gratuitous insults. FU.

Argue what?

Some guy's wife who is a casual fan and some clown see things alike.

What's the measure of "physical" besides what some dummy thinks?

I think the style of play last night was more applicable for unicorn herding.

Think about that for awhile and come up with something relavent.
