OK, I know there are high expectations here and I know the D has not been good this year. However I don't want us to overlook the season both these guys are having. Carter has over 10 sacks and there are still 3 games left. Vince seems to always be around the ball this year, including recovering a fumble in the end zone on Sunday. We love to be negative on this board. Let's appreciate how these two have played this season.

Yes, much love goes out to the 2 best players on the defense, no doubt.

The problem has been the inconsistency of the other players, besides Arrington.

Lesser named players like Ninkovich, Love, Deaderick, Anderson etc have been holding their own, and even looking pretty good at times. I would even add Ihedigbo to that list, as he has not played "good," but he has proven to be a worthy enough player under the poor circumstances.

There are going to be mixed feelings on Mayo, but he has proven himself to be one of the core players..no doubt. I think we may need to see a bigger role from him overall, and that may come. If so, it would be huge. He is certainly a very talented player, but still hasn't taken that final step that so many of us expect.

The main problem has been due to injuries and inconsistent play of guys like McCourty, Chung, Spikes etc. Those are the players that so many of us thought would make this defense a competitive unit. Whether it's poor play, bad luck with injuries, or a mixture of both (all 3 are candidates), they ALL need to contribute for this defense to be anywhere effective.

Hopefully having Fletcher back will make a very positive impact. Even a lesser role playing Guyton could add something when healthy, if used in spot/role playing duty and not as a starter. The unit has a lot of potential, but has not lived up to it for one reason or another; obviously including injuries.

I know this is about Wilfork and Carter, but this reminded me of something!

Anyone notice that the D played better when McCourty was out?

But back on topic, Wilfork has been fantastic, and Carter is playing better than I think most of us thought he would!

Oh, absolutely.

Obviously, I'm sure you'd agree that there are many factors that come into play when assessing the defensive performance when McCourty was injured; but it does make you think...

It's great to see Wilfork as such an anchor up the middle, and I'd have to say it's his best year ever without a doubt.

Andre Carter has been extremely productive, and deserves to stay on next yr. He plays with a high motor, and seems like one of those "Patriot" kind of guys..lots of heart and intensity, and does his job well.

I can see why Carter and Haynesworth clashed in D.C. Carter is an absolute warrior who plays every down like his last. Haynesworth must make him sick.

Love both these guys, but I'm personally expecting a season low number of snaps for Carter (and Anderson) this week.

Expecting a 34 base:
Daedrick-Wilfork-Ellis
Ninko-Fletcher-Spikes-Mayo

Wilfork will be feasting on Tim T-bone Sunday!

I'm pretty happy with the front seven. With spikes back, we'll have great rotations at LB and DL, with ability to play both base defenses and good pass rush. Very versatile and deep.

The secondary, I'm crossing my fingers.

Here, here (raising imaginary glass of champagne....can't drink this early!!) But couldn't agree more.....Carter is one of the best, most successful FA picks we have had in years, and I was thinking the other day how much more devestating he would be if he had played with the defenses of 2001-2004 (well forget 2002...that was a bad year). And Big Vincent has been incredible..solid every year....and having incredible year in 2011. If not for Vince, carter and some Anderson...we'd be in bigger trouble!

Forget Carter and Anderson...Wilfork alone would be absolutely brutal.

I'm constantly amazed at how durable these top 2 big guys are( Ngata,Wilfork). It really is incredible and somebody pointed out that Big Vince played all but one snap vs the redskins? Dude could be a marathon runner if he lost the weight.

Actually, Big Vince was drafted in 2004 and started the SB we won against Philly in 2004.....Time Flies........
