Fine, let's do this a different way. Who would you rather have drafting than BB?

You could even ask the question, who has done a clearly better job in the last, say 5 years.

Anyone out there there who can comprehend the fact I wasnt saying that personally I could draft better. Read his phrasing, then my response. I'm saying draft better, not that I could. God it's sad I'm posting this again. Yes, it says "I would have drafted better" but a little thought to it might help you understand.

Funny how RayClay obviously knew what I was saying.

You know this by telepathy?

I'm sorry when you posted:

I would have drafted better, there is a simple solution. For this situation? Hire someone who can do it. BB is a great coach, not so great GM.

I thought you really meant, "I would have drafted better". Then I check your posts on the draft forum and I see no mock drafts by you. So I guess you didn't really mean "you" would have drafted better but someone would have drafted better?

Whats funny is if you created a poll question Do you think you personally would have done a better job drafting than BB, there would be numerous people on this board that would truly answer yes. Probably even more if the responses were kept private.

this place is nuts, getting a 1st round bye and home fields in the PO's is better than having to play a wildcard road playoff game. so shut the F up about 1 and done.

how bout a wild card road game, we can win 1 and lose 1. 1-1 looks a little nicer maybe? epic fail of a mindset.

Our team was so friggin clutch down the stretch last year they were awarded a bye week and a home game. They lost, boo hoo, a bye week with home field advantage is success IMO. good for local business as well.

1 n done 1 n done 1 n done we deserve it and then some. thought it was a fun game today, after reading some posts here You'd think BB should be locked up in a dungeon.

I'm not sure how long Smith has been there, but the Texans have a long history of bad draft picks, and are getting ready to play their first ever playoff game.

You dont get it, they must go 19-0 and stomp on everybody, score over 500 points a year and only give up 48 and win the super bowl every year, or BB doesnt know what hes doing, he cant draft, he cant delegate, he cant pick good coaches. Anything less is just not enjoyable

He took over for Casserly in 06

oh my bad, sorry.:ugh: thanks for the priority list cmass!! lol

To be fair Smith has had much lower positioning in the draft due to a poor record year in and year out. But he has had some good second rounds too.

And his draft record really isnt that impressive.

So you would rather have the guy that took 5 years to build a contender over the guy who has done what BB has?
Why?

Just a matter of preference Andy. I like the way he's built his defense in particular. I'm sure many here would crucify him here for his secondary up until they signed Joseph. The front 7 is one of the best in the NFL, the offensive line is stout and built on the cheap with nice production. They got 2 running backs that are very good. You could say they lucked into Foster the way we lucked into Brady.

I'm not knocking BB, I think he is in the top 5 mix along with Pittsburgh,New Orleans and Green Bay. It would probably be easier to break it down to a yearly award rather than 5 years as every team has one or two years of sub par drafting in that span. You could easily say BB was the best in 2010.

The Texans are currently holding onto a #1 seed with their 3rd string QB and minus Andre Johnson and Mario Williams. There are very few NFL teams that could pull that off, and they're doing it because they have a lot of talent, a lot of depth, and finally some good coaching, on the defensive side of the ball.

In any case, I think you're missing the point of what the guy you were replying to said, as he very clearly separated Belichick the coach from Belichick the GM. You have failed to do that.

The Patriots are better than the Texans because of superior coaching and Tom Brady. From 2-53, on the roster, the Texans are a far more talented team, due largely to some exceptional drafting over the past couple of years.

And I'm usually one of the ones defending the Patriots' drafting on here. But in this case, I'd definitely agree that the Texans have drafted better than the Pats over the past 5 years, since Brady doesn't fall into that timeline.

I don't think that that means that Belichick has "lost it", though, or anything like that. IMO it's just a small sample size issue- you're evaluating entire philosophies based on a handful of selections. He could go and draft four future pro bowlers this offseason and I wouldn't be shocked.

I don't get this at all.

One complaint is that Belichick blew the entire 2007 draft. Well, so did Smith. Belichick only hit with his first rounder in 2008, as did Smith (but Mayo is way better than Duane Brown). Smith had a great 2010, but Belichick's was better. Smith's 2011 draft included Watt and Reed, but also Harris who has done nothing. The only draft that Smith really did better than Belichick was 09, and that's mostly because he got Barwin after the Pats passed twice on him to get Butler and Brace.

Maybe I missed something but you said you would rather have him drafting than BB.

Also worth noting, though, that Smith also cut his losses in the 2007 draft, using a 2nd in 2007 and a 2nd in 2008 to get Matt Schaub, similar to how Belichick used a 2007 2nd, 4th, and 7th to get Welker and Moss.
