To increase his post count, that's why.

I would think the opponents are going to have a hard time finding someone big/strong enough to block him in certain situations.

Because they're aren't any other 305 lb. players in the league, right?

Especially since he has seldom been used this season, opponents aren't necessarily going to make blocking him the focal point of their offensive game plans.
