Now, I'm not saying this is true. But the notion for some fans out there is that Tom Brady is afforded a much longer time in the pocket than most QB's. Some even use that as an excuse on why he's so good. Which is ridiculous.
We've seen Peyton Manning and numerous of other QB's still play at a high enough level with a weak line.
If the line is struggling to block, Brady has to adjust. Audible to quicker routes.
I don't buy it at all, because the line is still blocking great. Brady is just holding onto the ball too much. Most of his sacks are coverage sacks.
Can't blame the guy.
Usually his o line provides him a fortress of solitude like pocket to stand in and wait for his munchkin receivers to be lost by whomever is covering them. It hasn't happened lately.
Must be terribly frustrating for a QB.
Rodgers is also playing against mostly garbage defenses.
Brady has been seeing overload blitzes for the past two weeks from teams that really don't normally do that. He'll be fine.

well with a guy like rodgers, his mobility is so awesome
look at my boy rivers and his zero mobility , he got eaten alive last night
brady's somewhere in between, he has good pocket mobility and good poise, but he's not going to be able to compensate all the time, for a bad oline protection
Honestly, did you watch him last year? The first unanimous MVP in NFL history? Tell me specifically what about his mechanics last year had gotten "much worse." If you want to talk about this year in those terms, I'm listening. But last year? You could not have been watching, and to make that claim is ludicrous. Please don't take this the wrong way, but you don't know what the f#$% you're talking about. In light of Brady's performance in 2010, you sound foolish and silly.I think Brady's pocket mechanics in the last few years have gotten much worse.
I think Jaws said is best awhile back:"Tom Brady is the most mobile QB in the NFL." Meaning no QB is better than him at buying more time, and making subtle moves with his feet in the pocket to buy extra time.
I'm not seeing much of anything like that to resemble the Brady we're used to seeing in the pocket. He's still very good at, but not like the Tom Brady I remember.
Of course not all of it is on him. The line has been shaky at times, but I don't think they've been much worse that what they're capable of doing.
The pass blocking for the Pats has always been good, but not great as some might assume. Brady helps them out tremendously with what I mention before, along with his ability to call out where the pressure is coming from to his line, to make their job easier.
The year Brady went down, Cassel was getting sacked at an extremely higher rate despite being much more mobile.
When Brady isn't living up to what he's capable of doing, the holes just are that much noticeable.

Tom Brady has played poorly at times this season. In fact, I believe he's been primarily responsible for at least 2 of the Patriots' 3 losses this year. And stop with the "homer" references. You, and others, think that anyone who isn't a "Chicken Little/The Sky's Falling" is a "homer", which is only slightly worse than being a murdering pedophile. Thanks for the startling revelation that a QB who is subject to a great pass rush gets skittish and does things he normally wouldn't do. Please tell me who you believe is immune from that. Cherry-picking the Jets' play-off loss last year to support your argument is weak. To reiterate, if you want to talk about Brady's performance/mechanics this year as being less than what it's been previously, that's fine. But to suggest that his mechanics have been consistently screwed up for the past few years is BS, and you know it. I don't know what your agenda is and, frankly, I don't give a f$%^, but you make a fool of yourself with that suggestion.Did you not watch the Jets game last year in the playoffs? The Tom Brady that was seeing "ghosts" and was just anticipating pressure, even when it wasn't there, and not standing tall in the pocket? The same guy that COST the team the game!! Even the biggest Tom Brady homers, locally, and nationally admit the game was on him. They admitted he looked rattled and honestly a little "tense" in the pocket.
You sound even more asinine if you are going to sit here, and tell me that Brady's mechanics have been the same in the pocket in the past few years, as they were pre-injury. I did not they were suddenly bad, but there's no secret Brady gets happy feet at times, more so than he ever would have since coming back from his injury. There's no secret if he does not get a clean pocket, he tends to get a little more tense from pass happy blitz teams.
There's a subtle difference, and those who don't wear homer glasses, and doesn't sit in awe of everything he does, they notice that. There are numerous others on this board who have pointed this out. So I'm definitely not alone in noticing this.
I did not say this all of a sudden makes him a bad QB, or not a great one even.
There's also no secret that Tom Brady didn't go on his "tear" last year until Mankins finally ended his holdout, and just was blazing hot and had one of, if not impressive performances that I've seen from a lineman in some time.
I love how just a very subtle criticism, or weakness you point out in his game gets magnified into the dooming apocalypse.
When Tom Brady gets good protection, he's money in the bank. The Patriots line was much better last year, and individuals were having a much better year. There were times last year where Brady could go have a beer, a hot dog, come back, and still about 5 seconds to throw the ball to whoever he wanted without a single defender near him.

Brady's pocket mechanics were fine in 2010. Every QB is going to struggle when faced with protection problems. You're also discounting the level of game planning (both offensively and defensively) and improvement for Tom Brady. Earlier in his career, he wasn't "Tom Brady" if that makes a measure of sense.Do some people seriously suffer reading comprehension problems around here or something? Honestly, not trying to be rude. You're seriously get one thing mixed up with another thing. This is not a debate whether or not Tom Brady has still be great the last few years. In some parts of his game he has progressed as a player, but in this one regard I think he's regressed.
I am not talking about Brady's game as a whole. Just so we get this cleared up.
Yes, Brady was great last year. Not going to argue that, and I never suggested differently. He was definitely an elite QB, without a doubt, last season. All of that is true, and I won't sit here and refute that.
I am strictly talking about a difference in his pocket mechanics. There's a difference. There's been a tweak of a difference ever since he came back from his injury. Each year it seems to get worse, and Brady seems more and more overwhelmed by high pressuring blitzing teams. Especially when his line cannot consistently give him a clean pocket.. Brady wasn't always like this. He was very calm, cool, and the best there was in the game by far at buying time despite this. Sometimes he's able to still show us glimpses of this, but more times than not I'm not seeing it.
Sure, sometimes a good defense just kicks your butt, and there's nothing you really can do. But this Brady more often than not gets a little more pressed, and feels a bit more rushed.
It doesn't mean all of a sudden he's horrible because of it. It doesn't mean he's suddenly regressed completely in every way imaginable. Honestly, it has taken away a little bit of what he could be despite of that. Yes, even the great Tom Brady is flawed. I'm sorry.
When Brady is afforded time, he's the monster we've come to know.
The Brady of old can buy time on his own consistently, but those days are very far and in between.
The Brady of this year is having an array of other problems completely separate, compounded with this. He's suddenly become rather inaccurate at times (that's something he definitely wasn't last season), and I think he's lost velocity on some of his throws as well. And at times he's making very careless decisions that he just wouldn't make last year.

Good Defenses in the NFL appear to have players who are getting bigger, faster and stronger. It shouldn't be a stretch to imagine that defensive players doing their jobs isn't going to impact the level of performance somewhere. There's also the possibility that TB is in a funk (which he is).
