Did Pats offer Paterno a job?

I seem to remember the Patriots pursuing Joe Paterno to be their HC, back around 1970 or '71. Does anyone else remember this?

Yes, he accepted the Pats HC job but later backed out of it...Chuck Fairbanks then took the job.

Don't remember it, but Wikipedia says he actually accepted the job then backed out, 1972.

His wife is the one who talked him out of it. Asked him if that's what he really wanted to do. Joe had 2nd thoughts and backed out on the deal.
