Just some defensive stats...take them for what they're worth

Spikes and Carter are playing well, just don't ask Spikes to cover anyone who runs a sub 5 40 lol.

Yes but I didnt include him because he is not or atleast looks like he is not playing this weekend. He is a good run stopper which could help the Jets a lot.

you sound more like you are making baseless excuses because you dont want to admit that the defense has improved...no one is saying its great or even good. but watch the games and you can see they are playing better.

as far as the offense goes, ours has declined, partly due to brady playing some bad games, and partly due to the fact that defenses have started to clog the middle of the field because we currently have no one playing the sidelines/offering a deep threat

yeeeahhhh..........ok

The stat I was looking at recently that was shocking was that - in terms of yardage - most of the QBs we've faced have had their best game of the season against us.

The stat I was looking at recently is the number of posters here recently looking at stats and were actually shocked that most of the QB's faced had their best game against us.

It's not a refusal.

He's clueless.

so you have no argument other than to say in clueless?:bricks:

look, if the Patriots defense was playing as bad as it did the first 4 weeks, then Eli manning wouldve passed all over us with a high QB rating, he wouldve converted better than 29% on 3rd downs...but he didnt...he converted about 50% of his passes and was 29% completion on 3rd downs

NO ONE is saying this defense is great..all we are saying is that it is better than it was the first 4 weeks. and anyone who states otherwise is the one who is "clueless"

Well, he is.

Besides, I'm not the one fixated on the defense.

I don't give a rat's rear that Chad Henne has a "career" day because with 8:48/down 14 points in the game threw for an additional 250 yards and lost by.......14 points.

Furthermore, I really don't give a rat's rear that Jason Campbell posted his "career" day by throwing for 99 yards with under a minute to go down 3 scores.

I loved seeing Phillip Rivers have his "career" day because I knew that he and his offense would prone a bunch of gaffes and ensure a multiscore win.

I do care about our offense and special teams giving up 4 turnovers per game and missing chip shot FG's.

Other than the Steelers game, you have seen some real progress from the defense. I think the Pats were a little caught off guard with the Steelers expecting Roethlisberger to test the secondary more, but he came out with a lot of short passes.

The defense still got a long ways to go, but there are good stretches in games where they are dominant (created 7 three and outs against the Jets and shutting down Eli Manning the first half of the game last week). It may just be a matter of time before they pull it together. I don't think they will be a top defense by any stretch, but they may be good enough to win even in the playoffs.

woops, I thought u were calling me clueless...misread your post!

Does anybody else think it is a coincidence that the defense started playing better when Mayo went down?

it isn't real....unless you want to admit that the decline of the offense is also real

you sound like you're making baseless excuses

Nice work, just keep moving the target until you find one that you can hit.

You say it's not real, I say PROVE IT. This has nothing to do with our offense. Our defense doesn't play against our offense. PROVE that there has been an offensive decline in the NFL equivalent to 122 yds/game since week 4. You only need to look at 4 teams, it's not hard. Hell, I'll do it for you.

Jets Week 1-4: 308 ypg, Week 5-9 (minus Pats game): 321 ypg, +13 ypg
Cowboys Week 1-4: 418 ypg, Week 5-9 (minus Pats game): 385 ypg, -33 ypg
Steelers Week 1-4: 359 ypg, Week 5-9 (minus Pats game): 410 ypg, +51 ypg
Giants Week 1-4: 333 ypg, Week 5-9 (minus Pats game): 427 ypg, +94 ypg

There you go. 3 of our last 4 opponents have increased their offensive output since week 4.

So, what's your next baseless excuse?

Ill take the horrible defense and amazing offense that got us to 4-1 with one fluke play leading to the loss over the improved defense and horrible offense we have now.

Basically, give me shootouts over these cringing 0-0 games you just know we are going to lose.

Mayo and Wilfork are 1a and 1b of this defense. If you think it is anything other than a coincidence you've lost it. Substituting Mayo with White, Guyton, Ninko, Fletcher, or Spikes is a massive downgrade, even if Spikes is coming along nicely.

Spikes is not a downgrade. He played pretty well in the Giants game- I think it was one of his best games.

I'm starting to think he is emerging as the leader of the defense, spirit- and energy-wise.

Spikes is too slow to fully replace Mayo. He is a downgrade, but he is surely a bright spot this season. I don't think we have anybody who will hit as hard as him, hopefully he becomes a player that ball carriers fear running into. Our defense needs people to have a Rodney Harrison type effect mentally against the opponent.

meh........you're numbers don't prove much as they do not mean squat when it comes to the bottom line....

I don't know......but I will try this on for size.....THEY'RE STILL DEAD LAST...

so......better? by a few yards, maybe....I think the scoring defense is better in the 2nd 4 games by what....1 point per game?

but last place is last place......not to mention the fact that both of the last teams were missing a starting WR

But I do believe the pats will statistically improve over the next 5-6 games....I mean they are going to be facing tebow, painter, cassel, sanchez, grossman, moore(although he just got AFC offensive player of the week, so watch out).....but I guess better is better, right?

just hope that the jets keep trying to run the ball against the pats

feel free to admire the wondefull advances the defense has made.....I do have to say, there is really nowhere to go but up after giving up over 500 yards to jason campbell and the raiders

So, in lieu of actually proving any of your baseless claims you've chosen to whine about how they're 'dead last'. Again, nice work.

Mayo's no Bru or Vrabel, and he never will be.

He doesn't have their passion, competitiveness, anticipation, leadership qualities, or football intelligence.

He'll never be the heart of a championship defense, because he doesn't have the heart of a champion.

Honestly, roly poly Vince is emerging as the defensive leader, which sucks because he's stuck staring at the opposing center's snot-dripping nose most of the game. He can't get back and tell everyone where to be and what to do.

All IMHO of course.

Not shocking at all... that's why you are last in the league. Everyone feasts on you.

The stat I was looking at recently that was shocking was that - in terms of yardage - most of the QBs we've faced have had their best game of the season against us.
