"So it's going to turn into if you're going to fine me $40,000, I might as well put him to sleep for real or I might as well blow his knee out." - Ryan Clark

Ryan Clark of Pittsburgh Steelers fined $40K, takes jab at Roger Goodell - ESPN

I get that he's pissed at Goodell (and who isn't? Fuhrer Goodell is a stooge), but a player as dirty as Clark is, making those types of threats... not surprising. Guys like him and James Harrison (and for that matter, Ndomukong Suh, Bart Scott, and Terrell Suggs) are knuckle-dragging pieces of trash.

God he would look great in our secondary.

Clark is the biggest headhunter in the league. He's a menace who will eventually maim someone unless the league reins him in.

Thanks, anyway. There are plenty of legit tough guys in the NFL who don't stoop to his level or self-promote like he does. I'd rather have a couple of them rather than this scumbag.

From that article:

Clark was flagged for his hit on Baltimore Ravens tight end Ed ****son late in the first half. Clark hit ****son in stride, appearing to lead with his shoulder, but both players' helmets made contact.

"There wasn't anything malicious about it," Clark said. "It wasn't a spear. It wasn't a forearm to the head. It wasn't any of those things and to be fined $40,000 for that? To me it's either targeting me as a single player or it's targeting this team."

I believe it was Clark who was absolutely ok with getting fined for a late hit against the Patriots last week. The $40k fine here is ridiculous, and Clark is right in his overall point. If players are going to be fined ridiculous amounts of money for incidental and non-malicious plays, they might as well just crush the opponent and get their money's worth.

I agree. I don't like his encouraging intentional injury, but yeah he's right that the league is fining as if defensive players are maiming guys on the field for ticky tack calls. Clark is still a piece of trash, but he's right. We see a lot of leading with the shoulder hits that get flagged simply for how violent they appeared in game speed.

The fact that Clark would come out and publicly say this pretty much shows that the loss of $40k is meaningless to him and has had no effect whatsoever on him getting the message that the league is attempting to send him.

When you're making as much as Ryan Clark or James Harrison do, it's laughable that they are complaining about a fine. While $40k is indeed a ridiculous amount of money to be fined, it's not exactly going to break the bank for a person that will be paid $8,000,000 over the course of 2010 and 2011. To me that comment is just posturing, to try and influence the league and referees to continue to do what he wants to do - inflict pain.

If the NFL was truly serious about these plays there would be a lot more suspensions because the teams would police themselves; teams would have little tolerance for a player missing the next game due to one of these hits. And if Goodell was really serious about player safety then he would suspend Clark for a game for his comment, to make sure that he as well as others do get the message and understand that there will be consequences.

"God"ell, the NFL, the officiating, all of these stupid rules...Damn, like there's not enough BS in our normal lives. We try to relax on Sunday and have to deal with BS, politically correct crap like this? I hate Clark as much as the next guy, but the inconsistant calls for PI, unsportsmanlike C, helmet to helmet...etc.Not just fines, but penalties as well. There is no consistency at all. And a LOT decide the outcome of a game. Stop taking their money, and start suspending with an arbitration of some sort. The NFL is getting to be a joke

After that quote, I'd almost like to see him deliberately and undisputably go headhunting. The punishment would be unprecedented.

so he's the new rodney harrison just not as good?

This hit was a legal hit in which he led with his shoulder. The fine is absolutely ridiculous and he's right, if they're going to get fined this money then they should do what all safeties should do: hurt the receiver. On top of that, he would look excellent in a Pats uniform. Someone like that immediately changes the tone of the secondary and, consequently, games. Brandon Spikes is starting to hit people like he did in college. Put someone like Ryan Clark back there and the dynamic of the defense changes immediately. If the Steelers ever let him go, I would love for the Pats to pick him up (just as I would have liked with LaMarr Woodley).

although the cohiba's are really just the popular cigar, not so much the best quality
