Re: Time to bring in a DC and change of Defensive Philosophy

They steelers punted ONCE at the end of the game. The defensive game plan sucks and has for 5 years now. The longer it takes to get a new DC in here the longer it will be before we even sniff a lombardi. OH, and by the time someone at Patriot Place realized this, Brady will be retired.

Vince Lombardi couldn't coach up our secondary. We need to get some impact defensive players via the draft or free agency.

That 3-and-out in the first quarter was the only possession the Patriots even got in that quarter. That's a fail by the D.

That second Pitt drive was inevitable. The D sucks against the pass, but they played well enough that they could have won if the offense wasn't so dreadful. All I hope for from the D is "good enough", and today they did that.

That doesn't change the fact that he has a terrible deep ball. He consistently under/over throws wide open receivers when he is throwing the ball deep.

Brady doesn't have a terrible deep ball.

Re: Time to bring in a DC and change of Defensive Philosophy

Offense just seemed weird with Faulk in it. Not saying Faulk is the reason we lost by any means but I though having Woodhead, Law Firm and Ridley were working ok up until now.

Empty backfield with Faulk just seemed pretty predictable to me.
It did seem that way to me. The encouraging this is the Patriots played so badly and were dominated by a quality opponent and STILL had the chance to win away from home. I thought New England's coaching was its own enemy today.

I think it's safe to say that while Tom Brady is still playing at a pretty high level, he is no longer playing the best football of his career. Has time finally caught up with him?

We'll have to just agree to disagree, because the defense I saw was the worst I've seen from the Patriots in BB's tenure, and that includes blowouts I've witnessed during that time.

Is the whole board one big thread today?

Anyway, I thought the defense played fine except for the fact that i could complete passes at will on third down.

Are we going to coach that up by the playoffs, or find new people somewhere? I'm hoping some of these practice squad subs at least have basic agility and motor skills after watching Moulden in the end zone running in circles looking befuddled.

Pressure was fine, who expects to contain and sack Rothlisburger continuously? No one that watches the NFL.

You can't blame the defense for the O going 3 and out of the first possession of each half they had. This team is designed to score. When they don't, they lose. We all knew this going into it.

I think keeping the opposing offense out of FG terriotry is the relaistic goal of a good defense. For this defense, holding the other team to FGs is a realistic goal and should be good enough.

I know that the D is extremely frustrating to watch and yes, they do kinda suck, but they would have won today if the offense played a "normal" game.

Well that's the thing. Who gives a crap how many regular season wins this team gets, it cannot survive even a few 3 and outs from the offense - which will undoubtedly occur during the course of a playoff run. If what you say is true – and it is – we have become the Colts.

Thats part of my point! Its going to take a year or two AFTER bringing in a new DC and system. The longer it takes to get that done, the more 1st round playoff losses we'll take. Its also a waste of Bradys talents waiting for this D to contribute.

Were you asking that after that 4th quarter drive last week? I mean last game

Yeah, he's got Alzheimers since the Dallas drive two weeks ago.

you are asking this after he was the unanimous MVP last year? i mean you're right that he's not playing like last year, but at least let him finish the season out before saying he's moving into the twilight of his career.

I refuse to have low expectations for the defense. Call me stupid, but I think they have enough talent to not be 32nd in the league in any defensive statistic.

They also would have won if the defense weren't so pathetic in the Steelers territory.

The offense, defense, and special teams all failed today. Let's leave it here.

REALLY?? You really thought the defense played FINE except for 3rd down? THIS is the kind of thinking that i believe the Pats DEFENSE shares with you! Its ANYTHING but fine. It sucks. They need a tougher mentality and it sucks that its gotten so bad that even fans are accepting their soft play.

Pittsgurgh's game plan on defense was excellent. Stacked 8 men and were still able to cover our receivers with ease most of the game. We started to have some success late but by then it was too late. Hats off to Pittsburgh. They are not the old and slow team the media hyped them out to be after their embarrassing loss to Baltimore. I'm sure we will bounce back as well.

lol seriously

Since when did worst of all time = fine

Were you watching football in 2007?

Brady muffed the deep ball to Price. He should have set his feet and put some heat behind the ball. He had time, but he got antsy because there were people around him.

You might want to give RayClay's post another read, looking for sarcasm and other forms of wit this time around.

I must say that the 3 and 12 and 3 and 15 conversions really infuriated me. Actually, they deflated me.
