Re: ****** Official unofficial Patriots/Steelers postgame thread ******

I blame the offense.

I loved seeing Faulk out there again! Love the man.

1.) The merge was butchered

2.) The offense has to actually get the ball in order to do something with it. This loss is all on the defense.

3.) This team's not going to the Super Bowl unless there are major changes made to both the personnel and the schemes.

You can't blame the defense for the O going 3 and out of the first possession of each half they had. This team is designed to score. When they don't, they lose. We all knew this going into it.

Re: Time to bring in a DC and change of Defensive Philosophy

lol, apparantly we can only discuss what mods want us to discuss? wtf. This is a legit issue.

Prob cuz*all the mods are huge kool-aid drinkers. Fact.

Re: ****** Official unofficial Patriots/Steelers postgame thread ******

I think that's what they're expected to do. Trade FGs for TDs.

Sure. But at what cost?
Ultimately, the goal is to keep the opposing offense out of field goal territory. The Steelers got to the Patriots side of the field way too easily.

The Patriots defense played very poorly on third down.

Pitt had a great gameplan..they essentially ran counter to what they've played all season...Rothlisberger was completing passes off three step drops all game....before the game a Piutt fan said he expected the Steelers to keep Heath in to block on the O line...instead he continually came off the line for 6-8 yard receptions....lousy in game adjustments....taken by surprise with the Pitt game plan...yeah...this was a pretty bad game for the Pats....40 /20 TOP for Pittsburgh....nobody is going to be competitive in game like that...

The Giants should give us a good barometer on whether this game was just a clunker or if this is going to trend going into the later part of the season.

The onside kick call with 3 timeouts and the 2 minute remaining was one of the worst calls I've seen in a while.

Re: Time to bring in a DC and change of Defensive Philosophy

But he was slow. I saw a couple of good lanes to run through, which a faster rb (like ridley) could make big plays with. Faulk was not explosive.

I agree Faulk shouldn't be a every down back. But he is probably the best blocking back they have.

Brady doesn't throw the deep ball well period.

I dont want to defend any player after watching that mess, but Brady was under constant pressure the entire game. Our receivers only run short routes and db's are getting away with holding over & over beyond the 5 yards.

Woodhead should not be KR.

Brandon Tate returned a kick for a TD today!! Sure he was useless as a WR, but he WAS the best return guy we had. :(

I think you've nailed the crux of the Patriots loss today Joker.

That 3-and-out in the first quarter was the only possession the Patriots even got in that quarter. That's a fail by the D.

I'm not going to deny that Faulk had a decent performance on his return but the running game did nothing to help the passing game today either by design or personnel.

I really don't like when the Pats go panicky on offense and one dimensional. Today was another illustration of that.

Offense just seemed weird with Faulk in it. Not saying Faulk is the reason we lost by any means but I though having Woodhead, Law Firm and Ridley were working ok up until now.

Empty backfield with Faulk just seemed pretty predictable to me.

40/20 in TOP with Rothelisberger throwing 50 times. That's awful.

Really surprising to see the Steelers becoming a more pass oriented team. Speaks to the shift in football ideology due to rule changes.

I think keeping the opposing offense out of FG terriotry is the relaistic goal of a good defense. For this defense, holding the other team to FGs is a realistic goal and should be good enough.

I know that the D is extremely frustrating to watch and yes, they do kinda suck, but they would have won today if the offense played a "normal" game.

Re: Time to bring in a DC and change of Defensive Philosophy

Did you see anything bending on 3rd downs? what a ridiculous thread. we don't have any defensive backs. Knute Rockne couldn't coach Moulden into doing anything but running in circles and being constantly beat. I swear some of the threads here are mind boggling. Yeah, if we draw Xs an 0s different we'll have a defensive backfield.

There was plenty of pressure today, BTW, watch the game. Rothlisburger is the toughest QB in the league to stop with pressure and we were quite successful. When you can't stay within 5 yards of any receiver, a drone missile isn't going to help, much less human beings bringing pressure.

They steelers punted ONCE at the end of the game. The defensive game plan sucks and has for 5 years now. The longer it takes to get a new DC in here the longer it will be before we even sniff a lombardi. OH, and by the time someone at Patriot Place realized this, Brady will be retired.

This sums up all of my thoughts.

It would be nice if discussions could take place in areas with a specific point. I believe they're called "threads"

Instead all discussion gets funneled through a butchered merge and ends up in a week old thread.

Sweet.

Don't see how you could blame the O or D. They both sucked and didn't do anything to lift the other side up or give reason to fight.

After we lucked out and cut the lead to 10-7, the least our D could've done was hold them to a FG drive, but they lay down and make it a 10 point lead. How is the offense supposed to respond to that?

Down 17-10, our offense which is our supposed strength has a shot to tie the game to open the 2nd half. They go 3 and out, how is the defense going to respond to that?

Both sides were equally pathetic and not going to cut it come January

Well people should have played better offense so the defense wasn't playing so much.

That doesn't change the fact that he has a terrible deep ball. He consistently under/over throws wide open receivers when he is throwing the ball deep.
