Wonder if it will effect his play down the stretch...again. I predicted Philly would live to regret signing him to that deal... And by year three there were already rumblings they did. Having a chip on your shoulder is often a good thing in this league, but in Asante's case the chip distorted his grasp of reality...

He's really slow. They were shopping him over a year ago, before Asomugha and DRC. Imagine how willing to get rid of him they are now.

Awwwww....Poor Asante Shamuel.

I'd take anyone back, pretty much, if I thought he would turn out to be a help. But my vibes on Asante have been poor for quite a while now, even before the drop in the SB against the Giants. By the way, in my opinion only, those who claim that it wasn't really a drop, but rather an almost impossible catch, are kidding themselves. Fairly difficult yes, but not impossible.

You are so right right my friend. And 'Almost on ....purpose".

Asante was a good cb who wanted to be paid like a shutdown CB which he never was. All I remember about that game is that the Pats had Hobbs on Burris when it counted not Asante which speaks volumes.

Wallet envy. From the moment they signed Nnamdi to a bigger contract, AS was upset and it didn;t help that they brought in DRC and now he's essentially third on the depth chart.....
They are even more likely than the Jets to implode with a few more losses. The Jets coach is secure while Andy Reid is essentially a goner if they don't make the playoffs.. I'm hoping they crash soon so prices for the Pats-Eagles game go down.....and I'll get tickets cheap. Is that wrong???

Asante has always had an over-inflated opinion of himself.

I shed no tears when he signed with the Eagles. Why? Because he is a horrible tackler and likes to freelance too much.. And when he blows it, he just laughs it off (see the failed interception in the SB)

Bwaaaaaaaaaaaahaaaaaaaaa

Oh, I'm sorry. You meant for this to be a serious discussion item

It really doesn't. The Pats don't ever really use a corner to shadow a receiver (very very seldom). Had Burress lined up on the other side of the formation, then Asante would have been covering him. Hobbs was covering him because that was always his side of the field.

And, to make this abundantly clear, before anyone else suggests it:

As great as Asante has been at anticipating routes, making the pick and taking it to the house, he has also been severely burned by his actions. He also would have trouble tackling a second team Pop Warner back. Thanks, but no thanks Asante...

You mean A$ante. And yes, ITA. Don't want him back.

Are some of you suggesting that it was a good thing that the Patriots were "too cheap" to sign Asante?

Alas, the people who say that, even to this day, are probably not in this discussion.

It is true that there are points at which Asante would have been very helpful, but you don't get to sign a player for just those points.

That's not anything out of the ordinary. The Pats never rotate their CB's. It actually speaks volumes for Hobbs that the Giants had Burress lining up over him instead of Samuel on that play.
