The Bill O'Brien Appreciation Thread

152 yards rushing.

Now, which team was going to "ground and pound"?

I particularly enjoyed the way the Patriots Offense speed up and slowed down the game as they chose. To me, that tempo football was an illustration of greatness.

The Jets D played well today. They were beaten by a better O. Great to see the Pats take advantage of what they were given.

Going into the bye week, it looks like the offense is now fully capable of ground-and-pound, as well as run-and-gun.

Nice job so far, Brady, Belichick and O'Brien!

I think he's having a great year, but I have to hold off on giving him further praise until he leads this offense through a playoff win. This team won when it mattered with Weis and to a lesser extender under McD - it has not done that under BOB.

On top of that, I keep coming back to the inside looks we've gotten into this offense between the BB documentary and other various mic'd up type things of late. I can cite at least 3 examples (4th & 2, Brady comeback vs. Buffalo, comeback vs. Dallas this past week) where we saw the coaches interactions with the QB on the final drive in a critical moment - in all three cases, Bill O'Brien didn't even open his mouth, and it was Belichick who did the talking.

I think that's rather telling.

My realization is this - this is Belichick's team, and Belichick's offense. The only person who comes close to his depth of understanding of that offense is Brady, who fortunately, is the person who executes said offense. No offense to BOB, but he is but a steward to Belichick's offense.

It's understood that the overall offensive game plan and decision-making comes primarily from Belichick, and Brady to a lesser extent.

However, to the extent that BoB is responsible for assembling the week's playsheet, and in-game playcalling, within the context of Belichick's plan, he deserves his share of praise when the offense works, and blame when it doesn't. This thread focuses on praise.

30 offensive points on the "best defense in the NFL."

Nice job Bill.

This thread will get bumped for 5 or 6 more games until playoffs.

This offense is humming like a well-oiled machine.

Brady gets the hype and the glory, but I think Bill O'Brien deserves some credit for our offensive success.

Thank you Bill O'Brien!

I personally wouldn't call one weeks performance a "well oiled machine". I still have major concerns with his game planning and play calling. That said, it was a much better job by O'Brien.

Right On The Money, as usual, Brother Atlanta.

And props to PatsNutMe and the others for NOT locking up this Thread.

Although I INTENSELY disagree with its theme, it's got Thematic Value.

PatsNutMe recently locked up a Defensive Thread that I was trying to roll forward ~ The 7 of 9 Thread!! ~ on a week to week basis, after first taking the time to squawk about it. That was both Offensive and Lame: Bad enough to lock up a legitimate Thread: But if you're gonna squawk, have the fundamental courtesy of awaiting a response, before abusing your prerogative. Worst of all, it showed poor judgment. I'm getting that on the record, here, as his Premature Isolation of that thread offended me and abused his prerogatives. I may be controversial, but I am clearly thoughtfull in my approach ~ usually!! ~ and have earned better than that.

By the same token, though, it's only fair to acknowledge that that behavior would seem to be uncharacteristic of Brother NutMe ~ perhaps brought on by the tension of dealing with the hysteria of the masses in the wake of a second consecutive loss ~ and that I APPLAUD his ~ and all the other Moderators' ~ decision to let THIS Thread RIDE...LITTLE as I may agree with its Theme!! :lol2:

Eh, I gave him alot of props last year and earlier this year but it's hard to see much from last night's performance to sing BOB's praises. Most of our damage was done in the hurry up IMO the credit goes to Brady. Since the Dallas game BOB has pretty much been living off Brady, or else just calling an awful game. Still very little creativity, no balance (though last night it was forgiven since we had zero success on the ground until Woodhead in the hurry up), not nearly enough screens/reverses/misdirection to take advantage of pursuing defenses.
