Simple question, really.

I got no problem with the officials. There is always going to be some PI calls, you'll disagree with, but overall I think NFL officials are very good.

Also there are far more rules and RULE CHANGES in the NFL then Basketball, Baseball or Hockey. Also the NFL Refs are only Part Time unlike other leagues.

I think they stink all around. Last year was pretty bad and this year seems the same. Well what I think is bad is pretty much average these days. Not just Pats games but all games. Just have to live with it and deal.

I voted fail, from what ive seen so far this year its just plain bad.

Very very very bad, and not just against the Pats. I've seen absolutely atrocious calls going both ways.

There needs to be another option, f'n pathetic

i would agree, refs have been horrible,

its as if they are completely untrained in their jobs, and are put together before the games by people on the stands, and these ppl share the widespread hatred of the Patriots

the only way the refs and their calls make any sense to me throughout this season is if you believe the following happened: the league send out a secret memo to all the NFL ref crews and told them to help the team the pats are playing against because they are such a good team that games will be blowouts and not interesting for the NFL product unless the refs step in and help the other team out a bit.....

if the above were true, than the refs' actions this year would make absolutely perfect sense

The first three there were some head scratchers but today apparently the Raiders offensive lineman had carte blanche to hold at will. Some of the take downs were unreal. I don't usually complain about the officials. Today was the most I have since the Ravens 07 game where literally you could have flagged them every play.

I think the "twelve men" penalty accompanied by the sign for a false start in today's Pats game sums up the quality of game-calling this year.

I thought it was the uncalled double fist to brady's helmet that sums up the gamecalling

one week a player bumps helmets with a QB the same height get a 15 yard penelty the next week a QB take not one fist but 2 to the helmet and nothing is called

Officiating has been lousy throughout the league this season.

Yeah, it's a league-wide issue right now. There is absolutely 0 consistency with how penalties are being called.

My friend and I were watching the Texans-Steelers game. (both pulling for the Texans) In the 4th quarter, Roethlisberger throws a pass a bit high for Hines Ward, who had to jump for it but couldn't make the catch. On the way down, a safety puts his shoulder right into Ward's back and completely crushes him.

We were both waiting for the flag. Here we are, rooting for the Texans, and we're in shock that there was no flag thrown. That's where we've gotten with the league. Already this season, I've seen at least 10 hits on "defenseless receivers" that drew flags that don't come close to the force of the hit Ward took and nothing was thrown.

I'm beyond confused at this point.

You must drink a lot when you watch football.

I don't think they're doing a good job protecting Brady. He kept getting hit high and late, the same calls Fitzpatrick and Rivers got when playing us. The Raiders were holding all day which was annoying, but I'm more concerned about Brady being protected.

The Refs and Richard Seymour were the best they've ever been - spectacular! 35 yards on Big Sy in the first quarter and the called back interference penalty on Arrington were things of beauty.

Completely agree. Pretty obvious major holding on many plays. There was an absolute hold going on in the last Raiders drive for the useless TD wehn they threw the bomb out of the end zone. Should have been a safety. On another play, the guy has Wilfork's back jersey half-way up his back grabbing it and no call. Makes you wonder what the real deal is at this point.

The answer to this question is difficult to say other than on a game-by-game basis. Other than a ridiculous "head-to-head" penalty called right before Big Vince's INT yesterday (who was that on? Chung? Whoever it was hit the receiver in the head with his arm, not his helmet. All I could think of was TMQ and that the football gods were not pleased, and thus handed the ball to Big Vince), I didn't think the officiating was too bad. In Buffalo it was awful, but of course we lost that game, so I tend to remember all the slights more in a loss.

On the other hand, if I am the Raiders and I had that PI call reversed on the goal line (I couldn't believe they called that because the ball looked uncatchable - the receiver ran the wrong way) I'd be pretty miffed today.
