Stats don't tell the whole story
The Pats are a passing offense, and Brady is a HOF QB.
But to say Welker is a better WR than Holmes is you being a lame homer, period.
Stats may not tell "the whole story," but they call tell a pretty big part of the story..
HOLMES---54 receptions per yr average in past 5 yrs
WELKER---108 receptions per yr average in past 4 yrs
That's TWICE the number of catches...
I'll take the guy who is dependable, plays through pain/injuries, is just as quick, and puts up 2x the numbers, thank you very much.
Oh yeah, and then there's the whole malcontent issue, the suspension issue, the drug use issue etc, etc, etc.
Holmes may be a decent WR (although the Steelers certainly didn't think that much of him, as they were going to cut him the next day, and were happy just to get a 5th for him), but he's a total douche of a human being.
Before last yr no one even wanted him, he's one pot test away from the same thing happening with a 1 yr suspension and a release from your team. That's always encouraging.
They threw the case out here in Pittsburgh, b/c he was the guy who caught the SB winning catch, otherwise he got pulled over WHILE smoking a blunt (automatic DUI), and had over 1/2 oz stuffed into multiple blunts in the ashtray which he promptly admitted were also his. Had it been a real city with real actual courts etc, he'd have been given a DUI, placed on probation, and been part of the system where he'd have to give his probation officer weekly drug screens etc.
We won't even get into his character issues at Ohio St, where he beat up his girlfriend, got into fights, knocked up a girl + refused child support etc.
After living in Columbus and Pittsburgh I know Mr.Holmes and his reputation all too well. If you're going on talent alone, I'll take the guy with no problems, a great work ethic, and 2x the output every single time.
