When I first read the story, I was surprised that a veteran football writer like Pompei would put his name on it. I actually do believe he had an NFL exec source behind it and it wasn't just random made-up nonsense like the Borges of the world tend to do, but that still didn't make it news. Anyone guessing at what BB is going to do is just silly, and Pompei should know better.

The only thing I wold say in Pompei's defense is that (a) it was not his opinion, he was just relaying the opinion of an NFL executive, and (b) it appears that the comment was made prior to Haynesworth and Ochocinco restructuring their contracts.

However, I will say that if Pompei was going to relay that quote then I think he should have also added his own opinion, whether it be that he agreed, disagreed or whatever since he chose to include that in his column.

I just saw this in Pompei's column:

Just spoke to the NFL executive who said that either Chad Ochocinco and/or Albert Haynesworth would be cut to make an example in the locker room. The executive told me that he meant in 2012, not 2011. Sorry for the confusion.
