NY Times: Good analysis of Patriots

Thanks man. That was one of the most honest articles I've read about the Patriots in a while.

Great article. There were a few little points, but overall better than just about anything I've seen locally. Also, it was interesting to see the Brandon Tate mention, given how low his stock is among Pats fans. Meriweather's stock is pretty transparent and stated matter-of-factly...interesting.

Funny -- I was just so taken with how he got the big picture of how the Patriots work and what makes them successful, I didn't pay much attention to some of the individual assessments. I can definitely see how some Pats fans would be taken aback by a few of those. But it's still the best-articulated explanation of the team approach in general that I've seen.

When Chris Brown used to write that blog it was the best out there. He's continued to do great things on smartfootball.com, and it seems like the new guy does a good job of delivering a good understanding of what the team does without alienating the casual fan. Very nice job.

Hats off to Mike Reiss for the tip off; pretty good assessment here by The Times.

I like the approach: Talks about "The Patriots Way" ("The phrase is mainly the outside world’s way of explaining the culture of this very successful organization") and really breaks down offense and defense.

Closing thought: "The system is outstanding. The talent stocking it is equally impressive. It’s just a matter of whether the Patriots can do something they surprisingly haven’t done well in recent years: hold serve in big games."
