Damn.

Regardless, I can see FESPN taking this and running with it for a week as way of overshadowing anything else that New England does. FESPN is a pure and unadulterated Patriots hate machine.

I feel dirty and used just having to tune in to that channel when they host a Patriots game live.

I dont want to hijack a thread, but ESPN does not hate the patriots, and I dont know why everything thinks they do.

They absolutely do, and they have a long history of it. From "they hate their coach" to some of the awful SpyGate handling that network is unwatchable. It was bad enough back in the day when they flat out ignored them or just used stock Pats footage everytime they needed to show someone getting sacked (Bledsoe.) There are a small handful of people on that network that do not fit the mold, but not enough to balance things out.

They are enemy #1. Proud to say I've watched them for nothing but coverage of actual games in years now.

Because I know who C Borwn is and liked him as a player. Of course on an absolute basis it isn't more important. Sorta like M Kraft passing as opposed to someone's mom who no one knows about.
Exactly. I've always been amazed by people who treat the death, or other incidents of public people as more important.

As fans of the Patriots we have a tendency to see it as them putting our favorite team in a negative light; fans of opposing teams have a tendency of seeing them put the Pats in a favorable light.

In my opinion there are no individuals in producer/executive roles there that are allowing their fandom to bias their decisions. What comes across on the television screen has next to nothing to do with liking or hating the Patriots. It is all about dollars and cents based on financial expectations delivered from those above them, the executives of a Fortune 500 company whose sole focus is profit and return on investment, in order to appease current investors and court new ones.

If bashing the New England Patriots generates high ratings, they're going to do just that.

By the same token, if gushing over the Pats generates high ratings, they're going to do that as well.

Right now the formula seems to be a combination of both; it infuriates both sides while drawing viewers who are both fans and haters. Get used to it; I don't expect it to change until the day comes (hopefully not for a very long time) when the Pats are a .500 team and not considered to be a playoff contender.

I agree, some ESPN analysts hate the Pats but ESPN as a whole does not....in fact, quite a few of the analysts seem to be Pats fans.

Sorry to be part of the thread hijack, but if the above is true, how do you know that their coverage is anti Pats?

If you told someone in Michigan that ESPN hates the Patriots they'd probably die laughing.

Considering other players who have had suicidal issues in the past, you have to wonder if this is due to the years of football-inflicted trauma resulting in a personality change/depression.

He only hurt himself, from the sounds of it, so I have sympathy for him.

There is an actual connection between concussions and personality/mood changes. The US Military had been on top of this for quite awhile. In fact, a great deal of the science as well as motive for the NFL's recent emphasis on concussions has come from the Military's experience in dealing with head trauma since the Gulf War. These past 10 years has seen a quantum leap in the ability to diagnose concussions quickly and begin new treatments and long-term care for those suffering from all forms of head trauma.

In fact, they've opened an entire facility for treatment (as well as study) of TBI (traumatic brain injury) near Washington, with the NFL keeping close contact with the scientists and medical professionals there.

We are seeing these sorts of things more closely associated with TBI, more NFL players with "problems" later on in life, and it would not surprise me in the least to see that many things in the past related to alcohol, drugs, etc, with former players were, in fact, the results of TBI manifesting, or expanding later in life, and just not diagnosed back then.

My thought too, and it's scary, particularly because he didn't have all THAT many collisions per game.

Of course, kick coverage does lead to some pretty hard hits.

Yup, because unlike plays from the line of scrimmage, you get a whole lot of yardage to store kinetic energy up before you release it via the hit.

I doubt yards after the first 10 or so matter much in building velocity -- but otherwise, that's what I was thinking. Higher speed = bigger hits.

There are also many people who do things like this that never were hit in the head. Lets not excuse him from personal accountability because other people who played football had issues. I feel for the wife and kids first, they are the victims here.

Re: Corwin Brown's family is blaming NFL head trauma

Former Notre Dame Fighting Irish defensive coordinator Corwin Brown charged with three felonies after standoff with police - ESPN

Very clearcut charge. Now, they are not doctors, and they are perhaps biased as well. But all the news about this case is pointing at the kind of mental/emotional unraveling that has plagued so many other players as well.

Yeah, I expect that that's the first thing that occurred to all of us.

I hope to hell this turns out all right in the end.

Re: Corwin Brown's family is blaming NFL head trauma

I would hope that they persevere in their lawsuit, and that Corwin is given the help he so desperately needs.

Re: Corwin Brown's family is blaming NFL head trauma

Did I suffer head trauma or did the mods vaporize this topic?

Re: Corwin Brown's family is blaming NFL head trauma

I was thinking last night, and was going to post today, if there had been any more news on him!
